The RAF St Eval Friends Reunited Association is trying to contact all ex RAF St Eval personnel, and invite them to our next reunion, at the Trebarwith Hotel Newquay, Cornwall in October.
We would also like to contact Rosemary Garner, physical training instructor at RAF St Eval in the late 1950s, last known address Christchurch area.
RAF St Eval (Cornwall) airfield opened in 1939 and closed in 1959.
It was one of largest Coastal Command stations in the country and was situated about seven miles from Newquay.
So that the airfield could be built a small Cornish hamlet, St Eval, was demolished.
It was also strongly rumoured that St Eval’s Norman church, which was situated on the periphery of the airfield, was to have been demolished.
But it survived to become the centerpiece of the station badge. Over 1,000 personnel lost their lives while serving at RAF St Eval, and in the church yard is a poignant reminder of the past where many brave RAF St Eval personnel are buried.
