ALCOHOL abuse among teenagers is a serious problem in this country, and one of the reasons is the cheapness, availability and lax licensing system, where the more premises they allow to sell alcohol, the more revenue the council gets in licence fees.
Change it back to magistrates who get no financial benefits.
When a large supermarket was caught selling to someone under age, they stopped the store selling for a day.
What sort of penalty is that?
Less than a slap on the wrist, and in the Daily Echo (May 14) it was reported that a fast food outlet delivered to under age youngsters.
And what did the council do? They had a word and told them not to do it again – pathetic!
Take their licence away for a minimum of two years and fine them two years’ licence fee money so the council do not lose out financially, and impose minimum prices in supermarkets.
