I WRITE in support of the council worker who took note of the restaurateur sweeping detritus from his restaurant’s seating area into the road.

I know in Ashley Road that some retailers make efforts every day to sweep their forecourts and deposit the litter and rubbish in litter bins – as opposed to sweeping it into the road.

Seeing as all litter in a high street comes from retail stores, bank ATMs and food takeaways – and open air cafes and restaurants create their share of bits and pieces – it is regrettable that Mr Hamilton takes so much exception to being caught out ‘redistributing’ dirt and rubbish.

In the age of mobile cameras I hope more council staff, and members of the public, will similarly take note of blatant offences.

Not for the sake of ‘spying’, or anything like that, but because littered streets degrade neighbourhoods and cost us all a lot of money to clean up every day.
