THE members of Dorset County Council’s planning committee have agreed to reconsider and see if Christchurch Library can be expanded without compromising Kelly’s Kitchen.

Druitt House, the home of the library, is a grade II listed building that, along with its gardens, was a gift to the residents of Christ-church. We, the residents, own it.

If, as has been suggested, the library is extended into the rear of the property, or part of the library is moved to another building such as Woolworths’ empty premises, the cost would fall on us, the council tax payers.

There are 45,440 people in Christchurch.

Do all of them wish to retain the café at a considerable cost that would eat into the £2.05 million allocated by the authority for the extension, making its viability questionable?

The authority has a responsibility to provide proper facilities in our increasing population.

How many people who signed the petitions come from Christchurch? Few residents registered any complaint during the public consultation on the library extension.

The residents of Christchurch should be fully consulted on all of the options before such actions are taken and council tax money is used in this way.
