Amidst all this anger directed towards MPs, it’s important to ask, how we can promote positive change in Bournemouth?
I used to be a member of the local Conservatives but the candidates they put up for high office didn’t seem suitable to me.
If you want to get better people you have to vote for an individual, not a party.
We elect a new MP in Bournemouth West in 2010.
Surely we want a local resident who has been active in the community – someone who has had a life outside politics.
Council leader Stephen MacLoughlin fulfils these criteria. Alternatively, let’s approach someone like ex-Blur bassist and environmentalist Alex James, or Roger Parker, Bournemouth town centre manager: people who may never have desired such an office, but could serve us well.
Bournemouth could have a great future, if we used our anger to upset the cosy status quo.
