Wagamama, Westover Road, Bournemouth

WAGAMAMA on Westover Road is a little piece of London “fast food dining” brought to the seaside. At least that’s what eating in is like.

I’ve visited the restaurant many times before and always enjoyed the food but been put off by the long canteen-style wooden tables and the even longer queues outside the door at weekends.

So, when I heard that they had an online take-away service, it sounded absolutely ideal – great food without the gripes.

Ordering online was very simple indeed. The full menu is on the website and the prices are identical to those in the restaurant. The only annoyance is that you still have to go and collect the food.

For just under £25 (plus the cost of petrol to drive and collect the food) we got two side dishes and two main courses.

My Ginger Chicken Udon main (teppan-fried noodles with chicken, egg, beansprouts, red and spring onions, chilli, ginger and coriander) is a personal favourite and tasted every bit as good as when I’ve eaten it while sitting on those big wooden benches in the past.

The Yaki Soba, Tori Kara Age and Ebi Gyoza were just as palatable as their in-house versions.

The lack of a delivery service is frustrating, but it’s certainly a different option to the usual pizza or curry take-out on a Friday night.
