If it's Good Enough for Cleopatra...

Egypt holidays are a relatively new concept in the world of foreign holidays. Following years of political unrest the President of Egypt, Anwar Sadat and Prime Minister of Israel, Menachim Begin, signed a Peace Treaty in 1978, and the Israeli occupation of the Sinai Peninsular was over.

Egypt holidays have more than most to offer with stunning beauty, modern resorts and a fascinating history that dates back over 4000 years. Egypt holidays have around a 5 hour flight time from the UK and are available all year round due to the exceptional temperatures which can often hit 35°, making them the perfect holiday destination. Bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north and Red Sea to the east, Egypt also benefits from having the longest river in the world flowing through it, this means there has to be an Egypt holiday to suit everyone.

By taking a Nile Cruise you will be treated to some of the most fascinating and historic sites to be found anywhere in the world. On the Mediterranean Coast is the thriving Marsa Mutrah resort where holidays revolve around the beaches. Cleopatra is believed to have enjoyed bathing in the waters near here, now if that's not the perfect recommendation, I don't know what is.

Further down in the Red Sea Region you will be spoilt for choice with Sharm el Sheikh, Taba, Hurghada and Marsa Alam to choose from. There is just as much to discover below the water as above in the Red Sea Region with an abundance of colourful coral, fascinating marine life and the odd shipwreck to explore. If you don't feel like diving then try the minisubs, snorkelling or glass bottomed boat rides.

The hotels usually have their own private stretch of beach and most have long wooden jetties reaching out to sea, perfect for watching the tiny little fish swimming playfully beneath.

Marsa Alam is the perfect choice for a nice quiet holiday. Originally a sleepy fishing village, the quaint harbour is still at the hub of life here today along with a good selection of shops bars and restaurants by the waters edge.

Hurghada is slightly livelier and has some superb guest houses and hotels to choose from. Nearby Giftin Island is a firm favourite with all divers in the area offering some of the very best marine life. Just along the coast at El Gouna you can even enjoy a game of golf.

Sharm el Sheikh is proving to be a firm favourite with British holidaymakers at the moment. Growing in popularity every year, choose to stay near the bustling resort of Naama Bay or some of the quieter resorts stretching out along the coast.

Just next to the Israeli border you'll find Taba and Taba Heights, perfect for exploring Petra City and Jordan.

You'll also get plenty of opportunity to explore the desert with jeep safaris, quad excursions and camel trekking. Haggling is a way of life when shopping on Egypt holidays, so don't be scared to try it, it's the only way you'll get those bargains and you never know, you might just enjoy it. Most hotels also run excursions to Luxor and the Pyramids at Giza, often involving an early start or overnight stay, but well worth the effort. The only problem with Egypt holidays is selecting which resort to visit in the first place.
