With the existing disruptions that have been relentlessly affecting the European airspace from the volcano ash cloud, there are countless holiday makers and passengers stuck all across the world.
With countless insurance companies rejecting claims to pay out on what is in most of their policies, 'An act of God' you need to think, why we even have to have insurance for our holidays.
Virgin Money, whose policy is provided and presented by Insure and go, has said 'Natural disasters are not included and therefore cover is not available.'
Although insurance is a good thing to have in case of medical emergencies whilst abroad, having to cancel your holiday for whatever reason and in cases of theft other things in the policies would have a extremely slight chance of ever happening such as personal accident resulting in the permanent loss of sight in both eyes, both being the operative word.
Previous to the volcano erupting there were lots of cheap Majorca holidays and those who have taken advantage of these have now been affected whilst being out there. They are out in Majorca and were due to travel home Thursday; however they have to wait until the no-fly ban has been lifted.
They have had to pay out a further £500 for an extra six night's accommodation on top of what they have paid for their holiday as they have to wait for the next available and reasonable flight leaving for the UK.
This has been the case all over the world and with insurance companies not paying out as it is an 'Act of God' this is leaving many people angry and frustrated and also out of pocket.
As no-one can predict this type of event happening, shouldn't the insurance companies at least have one section of cover for these types of things happening? Surely they make enough to pay out to customers if not all of the amount then a capped amount to customers who are taking out these policies. It isn't as if this sort of thing happens every day.
If insurance companies did include this into their policies maybe more people would take it out with their cheap Majorca holidays and all other cheap holidays available. This could only be a good thing to include for the consumer of these products.
