Something in the Air!
WE all love a good birthday party so it’s congratulations to Air FM, which celebrates its first birthday this week. The student radio station based at Westfield College in Weymouth will be marking this auspicious occasion with veritable smorgasbord of local talent this afternoon at the school on Littlemoor Road.
Robbie McIntosh, Jess Upton, Steve Wilson and Danny and the Goosemen will be popping along to the studio give the station’s head honcho (bless you) Carl Greenham the bumps, or bump in this case.
As Carl tells me: “Air FM is a keen supporter of local live music and, to this end, we are actively seeking bands, duos and solo artists to come and do a live session for our shows.
“All you need to do is submit a demo – MP3, CD, dvd, whatever – to email@example.com, or give the studio a call on 836050.”
So there you go, get yourself sorted and get yourself on the radio!
Now then, there’s another of the hugely popular Bluesnights at the Dorchester Arts Centre tomorrow night, Saturday, May 12, and this time it’s the return of Atlanta-based blues giant Bill Sheffield.
Bill, who boasts a huge voice and an even huger slide guitar, had worked with some of the greats, including Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Bonne Rait and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Tomorrow, Bill will be on stage with Dave Saunders of The Producers and it promises to be an evening of gutsy, passionate Americana.
So if that floats your boat, tickets at £10 are available from the box office on 01305 266926 or £12 on the night. Be warned, it’s likely to be another sell-out so get in quick, ok?
Moving on, tonight, Friday May 11, sees the launch of a monthly event for singers, performance poets, comedians and just anyone who wants a rant and rave about just about anything.
The Weymouth Write-Off starts tonight from 8pm at the Café Vie at the King’s Statue and is hosted by Sarah Shrugs and Barbara Stanley of the Skint Imperials.
