Steady start for James
ONE UNDER: Lee James
ONE UNDER: Lee James

LEE James overcame a topsy-turvy start to his first round in the Inteco Russian Open to post a respectable one-under-par 71.

The Parkstone-based professional chalked up birdies at the first, third and fifth holes, while dropping shots at the second and fourth at the Meridien Moscow Golf and Country Club.

A string of four pars followed until another dropped shot at the 10th was cancelled out by his final birdie of the day at the penultimate hole.

James was tied 61st after the first day and has little room for error when he tees up for his second round tomorrow afternoon.

Fellow Dorset professional Shaun Webster carded an opening round 73 for a share of 94th place.

There was a four-way tie for the lead with Joakim Backstrom, David Carter, Fredrik Henge, and Roope Kakko all scoring seven-under-par 65s.

  • Wimborne-based Gary Emerson was eight over par when he retired from the SWALEC Wales Challenge after playing just 15 holes at the Vale Hotel Golf and Spa Resort today.
