Barnes bags bass treble off Purbeck Rock
A NUMBER of excellent fish have been taken by freelance anglers with Michael Barnes from Broadstone having a superb session while tackling a Purbeck Rock mark where he recorded a trio of bass.
Barnes, a 37-year-old fitter, used a large squid bait presented on a 4/0 pennel rig to tempt the bass which weighed in at 4-12, 5-1 and 9-6. After weighing, all the fish were returned alive.
Slightly further afield, the West Wight AC shore bass record took a tumble when Colin Wyatt tackled the Chale section where he landed a fine specimen that thumped the scales to 17-2. Sandeel presented on a size 2/0 hook did the business.
A number of specimen bass have been taken from the island shoreline during the past 12 months including the current British record.
