Peter's ace in course record 59
FORMER professional Peter Lovesey carded a hole-in-one on a par four on his way to breaking his Canford School course record 59.
The 44-year-old scratch player shaved two shots off his previous effort two years ago.
Lovesey's ace came at the 374-yard ninth hole off the white tees in the club's monthly medal.
"The hole is a slight dogleg left with a bunker obscuring the pin from the tee," explained Lovesey.
"It was downwind, so I thought I would have a go for the green and hit a great drive with a little draw.
"When we couldn't see the ball on the green we thought someone using the practice area next to it had picked it up by mistake.
"We looked everywhere until my playing partner David (Fennings) decided to look in the hole as the last resort.
"When he asked me if I was playing a Nike three, I started shaking with excitement," added Lovesey, who used a 16-year-old Callaway driver.
Lovesey is a former Surrey amateur champion and was an assistant professional at Copthorne in Surrey for six months before becoming disillusioned with the game.
"The pro at the time decided my main duties would be in the shop. With little chance to teach or play, I got fed up with selling Mars bars and decided to walk away from the sport."
But Lovesey is looking to make up for lost time by devoting more of his time to golf in the future.
"My ultimate goal would be to play on the European Seniors Tour," said Lovesey.
"In the meantime, I would like to get my PGA qualifications and teach."
