MIDWEEK EXPLOITS: Donal McDermott (right)
EDDIE Howe could be ready to hand Donal McDermott a chance to resurrect his career at Goldsands Stadium.
McDermott has been named in Howe’s provisional 20-man squad for Cherries’ League One showdown with leaders Tranmere on Saturday (3pm).
The enigmatic playmaker has endured mixed fortunes since signing permanently from Huddersfield in January.
Despite featuring prominently under Lee Bradbury, McDermott, who has had his fair share of injuries, has been restricted to just one start this season.
The 22-year-old played a starring role in Cherries’ Hampshire Senior Cup win over Winchester in midweek.
Midfielder Harry Arter, striker Steve Fletcher and defender Stephane Zubar are also in contention to return to the squad.
Howe said: “It is always |difficult choosing a team and |the hardest part is telling pla-yers they are not playing or involved.
“We are going to need all the players who aren’t involved to be respectful of the team and to react the right way.”
Discussing Tranmere, Howe said: “They are unbeaten in the league and it would be a really good scalp if we were to end that record. Everything is set up to be a great game.”
Cherries: (from) James, Francis, Addison, Elphick, Daniels, O'Kane, MacDonald, Grabban, Barnard, Pugh, Davids, Demouge, Partington, Tubbs, Cook, McQuoid, McDermott, Fletcher, Zubar, Jalal.
Rovers: (from) fon Williams, Holmes, Gibson, Taylor, Bakayogo, McGurk, Wallace, Palmer, Robinson, Stockton, Cassidy, Bell-Baggie, Power, Kirby, Black, Kay, Harrison, Thompson, Mooney.

Think Eddie Howe will make a big difference but really it's down to the player with a vocal club captain geeing him on on the pitch
McDermott is very skillfull when he has the ball but he never tackles back and has a very poor work rate. EH always picks players that work for the team McDermott will have to change his workrate and his attiude if he is to stand any chance of a regular start under EH. He would not be in my starting 11.

Good to see Arter back in contention after injury, or is he? I see he's not named in the squad at the bottom of the page. Come on Echo make it clearer. I'm sure Eddie will find a role for Big Fletch to play. It'll be good to see him play a part either as a sub for the last 10/15 minutes, or just a part of the squad to motivate everyone.

And don't we all want a local boy to do well? That's what football's about!

Got to be Tubbs! He's the only one to hit a barn door at the moment. Would be justice after EH not signing him all those years ago. To my mind his only bad call as manager.

I personally would go with: James (C) Francis, Cook, Zubar, Daniels Pugh, Davids, Macdonald, McDermott Barnard, McQuoid Subs: Jalal, Elphick, Addison, O'Kane, Grabban, Tubbs, Demouge. UTCIAD
I think there will be a starting place for Davids, he looked strong against Orient and is the Bartley type of ball winner we need in midfield. And he can play a decent long ball which you need sometimes to mix things up and keep the opposition on their toes.
Unless there is a chance of Barnard signing permanently I would drop him and go with Demouge and Tubbs or McQuoid. I would also have Arter in the squad if fit as he is a good impact sub

If we are looking to put pressure on teams in the last 10 mins, we haven't got anyone better than Fletch at the moment. Don't know where you get seven from? Demouge looks unfit or not up to it, Sheringham long term injury, Thomas currently at Pompey, McQuoid unconvincing up front and more of a winger than a striker. Tubbs and Grabban should be starting up front. Barnard is a on loan and should be sent back as soon we get Thomas back. Looks like Eddie is gonna bring Stockley back into the squad eventually but it's gonna take time. Let's hope Eddie gets the team attacking the opposition. I'm getting p****d off watching us trying to walk the ball into the net. I still think Fletch has got a part to play this season, until everyone is fit. If you don't agree no probs. Jog on!!!!!!!
