Cherries: Mitchell expects Howe and Tindall at Orient clash

RETURN: Eddie Howe looks set to rejoin Cherries RETURN: Eddie Howe looks set to rejoin Cherries

EDDIE Mitchell says he is "more than hopeful" that manager-in-waiting Eddie Howe will attend tomorrow's clash against Leyton Orient at Goldsands Stadium.

Speaking to the Echo in the past few minutes, chairman Mitchell insisted a deal to bring Howe back to Dorset was close to being completed, with Cherries trying to agree a compensation package with Burnley.

Mitchell last night confirmed he had lodged an official approach with the Clarets to speak to Howe, while the Championship outfit responded with a statement claiming Cherries had not been given permission to talk to the 34-year-old.

Reports in the North West this afternoon claimed a deal for Howe was "very close", while Mitchell told the Echo an agreement had not yet been concluded.

Mitchell admitted he had anticipated finalising Howe's move last night, but added that suggestions compensation had now been agreed were "100 per cent not accurate". He also said there had been "a lot of toing and froing".

No news then Mitchell, but a sure fire way of getting a few hundred more in the crowd for tomorrows match. Nice bit of marketing, I have to say.

Pete,do you think their trying to rub Burnley nose in it and are trying to get a couple of players back,i think that is the hold up,if any.

He's definately left Burnley. Didn't take training this am. I've just been told that by someone who is very close to what amounts to a "horses mouth" for which I thank him.
I was a doubter but now I'm convinced. Might even pop down to DC after work.

Jason took training this morning, which is an indicator that things are far from settled. Just have to hope that things are progressing and that we will have to continue to be patient. As for tomorrows game, it's a Rofe team , that prospect doesn't raise any enthusiasm for me and had already made arrangements to go to a Rugby match. Let's hope that with a new man on the horizon the players give a proformance - it's long overdue.

Eddie is all yours, but please stop making us Clarets laugh with the Austin story! If you had that much money, you would had Howe 2 days ago! Charlie is a 7 million player and will go to the premier. Think he is a bit more ambitious than Eddie. All the best for the season mind.

Burnley fan in peace here.

The truth is - it's not working for Eddie at our club and he's not working for us. His 'philosophy' is getting found out week after week in the CCC. Maybe you have a string of Barcelona-esque players that can play his way. We don't. Frankly, we're lucky the way it's panning out and getting compensation for a management team that would be in danger of the sack and costing us a fortune to pay off if we lost the next two. Eddie may come back and work well for you or it may turn out he was just a bit of a flash in the pan and you've already had the best of him. How he managed to do wonders at your place first time is beyond me - I've never seen a manager who looked so visibly unmotivated and unmotivating. Whatever he has/had - we haven't seen it.

I don't think you'll be getting Austin; he's not with us for long but much more likely somebody two divisions above you and one above us as his next destination. Don't you think? Ings we've seen nothing of yet and Bartley divides opinion - I like him - whole-hearted but I think he needs to play more than we've played him and plan to play him.

Good luck to your club. Personally - I think this arrangement seems to suit everyone.

Perhaps Eddie's a bit too far from home to make it work oop North.Think he'll learn from the experiance,(he's only a young 'un himself!),and probably follow Harry's lead in future i.e not take a job north of London.
Owen Coyle didn't make it work at Bolton but who's to say if he goes back to Burnley he can't make it work all over again, and don't give us that "Judas!" cobblers, you'd have him back in a flash!
So good luck to the Clarets,i know a few and they're good lads, and good luck to us getting Eddie and JT back. And one final thing, don't get greedy with the compo, you haven't paid for half the goods you've had in the first place!Typical Northeners!

As a Burnley fan (also in peace), I am gutted to see Eddie Howe depart.

So many of our fans think that we should be a Premier League team, given that we had a brief encounter a few seasons ago.

Howe has worked on a tight budget and brought in players that have not necessarily improved the side a great deal but with further education and development have the scope to be better. His signings in the main will reap high financial rewards and to me that is the greatest indication of the work he has done.

Players like Austin will yield a minimum of £4m profit based on current form/market and shrewd buys like Trippier, Mee and Stanislas will also reap rewards in the future.

The reality is that he is only just setting out his blueprint and to lose him will basically flush two years down the pan. A new manager will come in, have his own ideas and the work ethos of Eddie will be blown apart which is a major concern.

You have seen this with your own eyes. Players bought for peanuts or developed under your youth academy have been moved on at highly inflated prices, so ultimately he will return to you with it all to do again, and then some.

Good luck for the rest of the season, I wish Eddie Howe all the best for the future and hope that he achieves great success with AFCB, because sadly this move will only tarnish him with a 'homebird' reputation and the prospect of a club in the top tiers looking to employ him in the future would be remote.

All the best

I entirely agree with you and had that not been so, he would have stayed at Burnley, Eddie is a deep thinker and plans well ahead and was just eighteen months in on a Five Year plan. The vast majority of our supporters are delighted that he is back.though and it will briing baack many who had walked away, dis illusioned, good luck gentleman , you are going to need it! We too must thank Max Demin, it was I understand his decision to fire Groves and to pursue Eddie & Jason and it's his money that is paying for it all. Well done Sir! and thank you.
