Cherries: Redknapp in Dean Court return

By Neil Meldrum
BACK HOME: Harry Redknapp has taken on an advisory role at Cherries
HARRY Redknapp has made a sensational return to Cherries – more than 20 years after leaving Dean Court.
Redknapp, who managed Cherries between 1983 and 1992 and led the club into English football’s second tier for the only time in its history, has accepted a non-contract, advisory role at Goldsands Stadium and will travel with Paul Groves’s squad for tomorrow’s League One clash at Yeovil.
The 65-year-old former Tottenham boss has been out of work since leaving White Hart Lane in the summer and met with Cherries chairman Eddie Mitchell this morning to discuss his new position.
Mitchell confirmed part of Redknapp’s remit would involve working with boss Groves and assistant manager Shaun Brooks in an advisory capacity.
- See tomorrow’s Echo for the full story and reaction to Redknapp’s dramatic return.

Do we think our Russian 'investor' should have been there before the press release?

And I never thought we'd get to sing "We've got Harry, Harry, Harry, Harry Redknapp on the bench, on the bench" from the terraces again! Just brilliant!!!!! Time for our season to start properly at Yeovil tomorrow with a demolition job on the second best team in Dorset!!!!

-Crowds will be up
-Media attention will be up
-Might talk some big name frees/loans into coming here
-Will hopefully get PG going in the right direction
-Isn't being paid
-Should be a big boost to the players
However, don't get carried away. He's not gonna be in every day, and Groves may look to do it his own way. We may become the Harry Redknapp show, even if he's not on a contract. Hopefully Groves listens to what he says and our fortunes will be up!

Having listened to Harry being interviewed on Sky, it seems we're all getting carried away for no good reason. He is only helping out Groves when needed and will not be going into the dressing room, plus he may only be here and there over the next few weeks :(
That sounds like a full time job to me, albeit short- term, i.e. until Groves is shown the door, if Mitchell can remember where it is!

A huge and very warm welcome back to Dean Court to you Harry from me and thousands of other fans. I can confidently predict that our fortunes are about to change with a proper manager around the place in whatever role.

What would be good would be to off load one of the three first teams and reinvest into having Harry under a contract as the manager and share holder, if the manager had financial interest in the club he would've then have a good incentive to press for result, to be fair we are more than capable in achieving something with the bunch of players we have if and when they are managed by someone who knows how to suck eggs.

However, he's not on the bench/in the dressing room yet, and may have little influence until he is. Exciting to see him back in any capacity all the same. Welcome home Harry.

Even if only occassional advisory, just the name has given us all and boost and must do the same for the players.
Not underestimating Yeovil tomorrow will still be tough and in the circumstances might even be another draw, but if we can build on tuesday night and McQuoid & Fogden build on fitness we might finally be heading in the right direction!

i tried a fortnight ago to place a bet on harry returning to dean court before xmas, no bookies would offer me odds gutted to say the least BUT WELCOME BACK HARRY hopefully you will guide groves in the right direction we all know if things improve who to thank
I am trying to be enthusiastic about this one and in my heart I hope that it will make a big difference to the current situation.
When I told my wife about Harry she said are you going to buy a season ticket now? My reply was that I will not. But will not wait too long to buy a match ticket and watch the Cherries

Harry has come back in the nick of time because the vast majority of fans were about to give up any hope for the club, who have been going down on the steepest decline imaginable since howe left. Lets hope denim (if he is for real) buys out the mitchell clan so Harry can take us to the championship for years to come. UTC
