Cherries: Tubbs grateful for Stein advice

MATT Tubbs is hoping that some pearls of wisdom from Mark Stein can help him follow in the prolific footsteps of the former Cherries star.

Recent recruit Tubbs has revealed that he often turns to Stein for advice on how to remain on the goalscoring track.

Tubbs completed his fairytale transformation from non-league hotshot to Cherries’ record signing when he made a big-money move from Crawley Town during the January transfer window.

The Verwood-raised frontman was assisted along the way by ex-Dean Court marksman Stein – who is now a physio at Crawley.

Stein, who scored more than 200 goals in a career that saw him play for the likes of QPR, Oxford and Chelsea, netted 44 times in 115 appearances for Cherries.

Tubbs says he learned a lot from the former Luton man. He told the Daily Echo: “Steiny is a good friend of mine. I watched him growing up and saw what he did with Chelsea and Bourne-mouth. Then having him as a physio, he helped my game a lot.

“I always go to him and ask for advice. He has played at the top level and there are not many better people to get advice from.”

Tubbs will be hoping to continue the impressive start to his permanent Cherries career when Lee Bradbury’s men visit Hartlepool tomorrow (3pm).

The 27-year-old striker scored on his debut in the 2-0 win over Exeter City on Tuesday night.

Eddie Mitchell is part of the elite – he is genetically descended from a race of 12-foot, blood-drinking, shape-shifting lizards.

Hey warbler, it is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think your stupid, than open it and prove us all right...... Enjoy half term

Mark Stein......those were the days......A Legend! Let's hope Tubbs will bang in some more goals tomorrow! Weakest link on Tuesday night had to be Francis! He gave the ball away 90% of the time! He made McDermot look bad with the bad passes that he made to him. Still, not many other options in defence really, so needs must. Purches would have played better as right back mind you.

Team selection (prefered): 4-4-2

Tubbs,Thomas
Malone,McDermot,MacD
onald,Pugh
Daniels,Zubar,Cook,P
urches
Flahavan

3 points!

tubbs i know youre not the youngest player in the team - but you cant possibly remember stein playing for chelsea - you must have been about 5,he was brilliant at Bournemouth.
Players these days are so lucky to be playing at a time when footy stars get big money, if stein was at the peak of his career now he'd be getting about 40k a week for some prem team and he wouldn't end up as a physio for crawley (not that it's not a good job)

I am pleased to see that Steino is still involved in the game in some way & sharing his experiences.

He was great for us, an exciting player - and if he still helps us via Tubbsy, good on him.

Agree with your comments about Stein. To be fair to Tubbs though, he would have been 14 when Stein joined the club.

He would have been 8 or 9, thats perfectly old enough to remember Stein playing for Chelsea.
