Fletcher: Cherries board doing things the right way (From Thisisdorset)

Sorry Fletch but not paying the tax man is not doing things the right way. Neither are the total outstanding liabilities as quoted.

You and the lads carry on doing everything you can on the pitch as you have been all season. That is all you can do and everyone is willing you to succeed. What you and the squad have achieved so far is incredible just stay focused on that.

Agreed Tower. The on the field performance has been nothing short of remarkable considering the distractions and with the respective resources available, Eddie Howe is as legitimate a candidate for manager of the year as Sir Alex Ferguson, but for Fletch to say things are being done the right way is a bit rich considering we're robbing this years tax (Peter) to pay the outstanding tax (Paul) and currently begging the fans to write yet more blank cheques to enable big Fletch to get his wages.

can anybody tell me why we dont pay the tax as we go, PAYE, its seems simple to me, why do clubs fail in this, please explain.

The club (for a number of years) sees the temptation of not paying the PAYE tax and says to itself, 'we'll pay this back some other time' as this month we need to pay off 'x', 'y' or 'z'. Except, cash is so tight that they nearly always fail to pay it back and then the Inland Revenue gets aggressive.

What we've been doing is using the taxman (ie everyone's money) as an interest free loan.

As a few of us have said before. If you can do better, either put the money in yourself, build a consortium. Or at least offer productive ideas to the club rather than "put more of your own money in Mitchell". It's pathetic and boring now, I used to like coming on here, now it's depressing. Yet we havent been out of a promotion position all season and our main players are being offered and signing new contracts!!
They could get clubs in higher leagues and probably a lot higher wages. But they choose us. Doesnt that say something about them and the board?

Your post would make some semblance of sense if people were, as you say: 'continually slagging the board off,' when all I can quoted are facts. Just because your rose tinted and naive view doesn't allow you to be reminded we've just been served a fresh winding up order over tax debts we knew nothing about others feel it's an issue worth mentioning, especially in an article where Fletch is also commenting on the way he feels the way the club is being run, it's called opinion, so if youre so narrow minded and so sensitive to people making statements of fact you may as well take your own advice and leave this 'depressing' place.

A Board that does not pay the Taxman on time and collects CCJ's for a pastime is not doing it right!

Fletch is of course right, for the Club to have a future it has to operate within it's means. We don't have a Billionaire owner able to pump money in to support his hobby, just two moderately wealthy men, who have made it very clear that they have put in what they can afford to lose and no more. As for giving preference to paying the taxman, they are on a financial tightrope and no doubt pay those who are pressing the hardest. To quote Charles Dicken's character, income £1.00 expendiure 19s 6p, result happiness. income £1.00 expenditure £1.06p , result misery, that sums up the Cherries precisely. I suspect that the Board anticipated selling a player in the pre Christmas period to "bridge the gap" in the finances and had no plan "B" other than to try and find other investors.This is a very tricky situation and I can't see where the money to pay off HMCR is to come from. Because I don't think that in these hardtimes fans have the money to bail the Club out.

If you are such a "northstandregular" then come up with ideas to get the tax man and embargo cleared?
Surely seeing how good a team we can be if EH has a subs bench where he can swap and change to try and win the game, not swap and change to stop players picking up further injuries and to keep them reasonably fit is incentive enough to SUPPORT the club.
I'm not an EM fan at all. But where would we be honestly if he didnt come in?
Would we be in promotion positions all season? Actually, would we have a club at all? The answer is probably no. Yes, we have a winding up order but we are in such a better position than 12 months, 24 months, 36 months......ago. This winding up order is manageable and i'm sure we wont go to the wall over less than a million considering how much we have reduced it by.
11 games to go, if you spent as much time firing money making ideas into the club or getting extra bums on seats than you do using these forums to slag off the only people that were seriously willing to keep the club running then we would be in a lot better position.
If we get promoted, we will be a much investment for outsiders. Then you can slag them off too. For me, if i was an outsider with money i would look at these type of sites to see the fans views before making a bid. You lot would make me think why bother!!

Sorry Steve,we not going forward and dont tell me you and the players are really happy with the way things are going.Its over a year and the embargo is still ongoing,none of us knew why,until more debts came out of the woodwork and a HRMC order being place on the club.The sums really dont just add up.he says £500,000 of his own money had been invested and that The HRMC payments have been fully paid and yet it was a pack of lies.I dont dislike Eddie Mitchell as a person,but he does not have what it takes to run a club,it seams more of a family business than a club that he says belongs to the supporters???Why do we need to have to bail the club out again when all of us are not in that financial postion to do so.The board of mangement are the ones that are carrying the bags of money so its them that should be sorting it.For one minute i do not belive the fulll facts of the finance are being layed out on the table in front as the echo had published.We are only seeing a very small percentage of how the accounts are being dealt with??The club still needs to find £214,000, and to assure the supporters the remaining debt will be cleared without a hitch!!Bournemouth, who are second in League Two, have been under a transfer embargo since January 2009 but have been making a mockery of their off-field problems all season!!Its a shame the players are now being used to give the board a good image.We need someone like Delia Smith who can be honest and open and have that real connection with the supporters.

The whole affair regarding the debts, embargo, etc, etc is complex and has many facets. We are all entitled to our opinions and deserve our space on here as long as we put forward cogent, reasonable arguments.
I for one can accept EM's long term goals for the club's operation but I am still very wary of Messrs Murry and Mostyn who, from what I have discerned from reading these posts and echo articles over the years, had more than a little to do with the ultra late withdrawal of the bid (with better funding) from the rival consortium in April last to buy the club off P Baker.
There is also the fact that the extent of debt seemed to vary every other day thus confusing most of us.
These points and many more are worthy of comment.
One thing though, that nobody will stand for, is the inference, by many that post on here, that those who criticise the board, in whatever context or degree, don't support the club and the team.

DC addict you are amongst those who have been more level headed and constructive about the situation we are in and make some sound observations which we can agree or disagree with you and that is fine. I am also certain that everyone (most of them) who post a different opinion than us are good supporters of the club/team and want the team to do well. What irks me is the continuous accusation of EM lying and misleading us (that isn't to say that EM is squeaky clean). However by not putting a different proposal forward the impression one gets is that the only reason they come onto this website is to slug EM (I say the impression they give). I say it again. It is easy to spend other people's money!

Perhaps some of you would prefer to be Chester City fans in a position in which we might have been but for the current Board!!

Certain people on here go on and on about the negative postings and slagging off of EM and the board. I for one am very skeptical of JM and SS's continued involvement with the club, but more importantly, so, I suspect, are the FL!

So in keeping with your moan about negative psotings not having any suggestions, here's a suggestion for you CherryChris...... Why doesn't Eddie Mitchell, who has the best interests of the club at heart, contact Ian Matheson, explain what happened regarding PB's sale and offer the IM the chance to invest in the club nowor buy it outright?

Afterall, by EM's own figures the club must be a much better proposition to invest in then this time last year? Then for once the fans won't have to bail the club out yet again through what can only be described as 'emotional ' blackmail.......

As for merrycherry, poisonous rhetoric my A-SE grown up it`s just peoples opinions about a sad situation that the club once again finds itself in. Surely people have a right to register their concerns and maybe these people have made Mitchell tell us more SPIN who knows. Our debts are high and no better than 6 months ago - why ? We owe Structadene £200k HMRC £214k CVA £300k and the list goes on which includes spending NEXT seasons INCOME. It is very difilcult to defend Mitchell when he employs his son and son in law and Brenda will be next. Just ask the Dorchester fans for their opinion on Mitchell , i have . I do not know what the answer is but perhaps the American guy who Musker and Timoney had is still there to help . What i do know is that it will be a difilcult 3 months ahead and i pray that we do not go into Administration, or can we because of the CVA ? Will it mean liquidation ?

Surely Fletch is able to see that we have gone forward from last season when just about everything was an absolute shambles. He is saying that the organisation is there.
Some of the posters on here (well, 2 or 3) are so blinded by their hatred of personalities involved with the club that they let it cloud their judgement.
They are also vastly out of touch with supporters on the ground (or should I say at the ground). At the match on Saturday, there were more asking 'how doing I put in?' than moaning about Eddie Mitchell caused the bubonic plague, the Second World War and the earthquake in Peru. Albeit reluctantly in some cases, people are prepared to pay to make sure that we don't become Chester City or Scarborough.

Nobody is knocking the players or Eddie/Jason, they have done a terrific job this season. Everyone is fully behind this section of the club and all want them to succeed. The problem is that the truth has been stretched regards where money was going to go, how much has been put in and the board not willing to match what the supporters put in. I'm sure we are all perfectly aware the money donated will be just that and no fan would really expect to get their money back or a return on their money. Thats fine by me and many I have spoken to, but I begrudge putting my money in and basically buying a business for someone else if they are not prepared to do the same. You may not like the way I see the situation, but I am entitled to have an opinion whether that opinion is right or wrong. The club is stuggling and all funds should be ploughed back into trying to release the club of this debt. Not employing family members who have no football background. There will always be two sides to ever story and two different opinions regards the facts, just because we don't all see eye to eye doesn't mean either of us are right. The only way to sort this out will be to have a meeting with all fans and the board, followed by a show of hands and the majority will be the way forward.

you say the board is a joke, cant you see we wouldnt have a football club if it wasnt for the board, we are in a much better position on and off the field than we were twelve months ago, mitchell has steadied the ship and i also remember krasner saying if it wasnt for jeff mostyn the club would of folded, why dont you use your time and effort into supporting the whole club.

We will never know if we would have a Football Club but for the Board. Mostyn never left the club as Baker was buying it on an installment plan and only made two payments hence surely he never owned it . So good old Jeff carried on and brought Mitchell in who is a bit smarter than Savi and he is trying to use the fans money to bail them out. Sad thing is the gravy train has stopped and Mitchell has been found lacking by SOME ? If only good old Jeff didn`t want some money for his shares maybe the Musker / Timoney guy would have got contol , who knows ? I think Brenda should run the club .

i dont think delia can help us. she is to busy trying to work why norwich are over £20 million in debt.

It is sad that the demise of the Supporters Trust has meant that more supporters come on here to ask questions and challenge statements made rather than a respectable AFCB fans organisation working in tandem with the club to get AFCB back on an even keel.

We have had Adam Murry's Season Ticket Holders Forum and two recent ventures from Eddie Mitchell. From all three meetings different figures were bandied about. So trust has to get back onto the agenda in large helpings from the AFCB board and I'm afraid there are still questions that remain unanswered from the figures published in the Echo and as to what and how Eddie Mitchell has actually put into the club. How Jeff Mostyn can look fans in the face after the Golden Share shenanigans when the fans and Playershare along with the creditors lost all their money. What are the current shareholdings and how are they justified? Is any of the money being raised by the fans going back to Mostyn and Murry in repayment of loans?

Even Eddie Mitchell and the Echo has the total current debt incorrect as next year's season ticket holders are creditors.

So the chairman has made a start in trying to get the fans back on board but the board still have some way to go.

As for Fletch, he's been a brilliant servant to the club and should be given a new player/coach contract without having to be wheeled out to make these comments. I do recall him saying similar things about Savi last year before the truth came out.

Now these comments are from a fan of 52 years standing who has seen it all before from Johnny come lateleys who down the years have come and gone.

To Eddie and the team I take my hat off to you all. You have all done a fantastic job in such trying circumstances and deserve to be in the frame after the last match at Saltergate.

But the jury is still out on Eddie Mitchell and the rest of the board.

Fletch is a Cherries man through and through and we should always be grateful for the loyal service he's given the club. I think he made his comments in good faith (possibly naively) irrespective of our opinions of the board.

The club has a difficult question to ask itself about Fletch if we go up to League 1. Can a 37 year old who has no pace left and can only really flick on if the ball is plonked directly on his head cut it against some of the better sides we'd face? Sorry Fletch, but I really doubt it.

We havnt all been slagging the Board off but I agree with you Ediie and the Boys have performed miricles with a the. readbare squad. And Credit to Eddie Mitchell for being open for what good it will do him in some quarters on here and as debts at Fooball Clubs go £845 k isnt bad our problem is we dont have the earning capacity of the larger Clubs to pay it off Debts to the Taxman are bad though because we only pay a percentage of profit which must be zero so it can only be Players and Staff PAYE which means that we are misapropriating our own peoples tax contributions to prop up the Club

Fletch and the team are awesome, and in my 40 odd seasons have shown by far the best team spirit, but flecth dont become a PR machine for the Board, they have chosen not too invest in the club, they want to maintain control but need the fans to pay for it by paying off the debt, with M&S still actively involved, they are an anchor around EM neck, if he was to move them and murry out I think he would get a lot more support, and he would find people more trusting, M&S are the real barrier and have played a very active part for far too long, no wonder the FL wont move on the embargo, I actually have some faith in EM, the problem is what he has in the Boardroom with him. Unless the board invest or they allow new investment then this has the potential to become a very serious threat to our club

Have AFCB actually managed to trim nearly £1,000,000 off their overall debts? Or is EM talking about short term debt i.e. replaced by long term debt? Also, FA, please keep the transfer embargo in place. If we are struggling to pay the players & staff we have got, how on earth are we expected to pay for a bigger squad when gates are only average? AFCB have to live within their means to survive!

I doubt very much that Delia Smith has any footballing input into the club and surely would not be the reason for their success this season. Although she is obviously a passionate supporter she did make a bit of a fool of herself last season when they were'nt doing so well.

Yes, that final game at Chesterfield looks like it will be a massive game. Avoiding defeat on Monday will help too. By the way, relating to ealrier posts, if you owe HMRC money; they always set off any payment against the older debt first. It is impossible to keep yourself up to date with present PAYE liabilities when you have older arrears - not really EM's fault that!! Besides, that's also in our interest as interest will be accruing on those older debts, whereas interest on this tax year's PAYE debts will not start accruing until 19th April.

I am relaxed about Chesterfield - after last season's goal against Grimsby Supa will top this by scoring against his old club to secure promotion for us!

Agree Nick. All for criticism where due but how can anyone call Supa spineless. What is the point? It is a great shame that so few of you AFCB fans know the real history of E.M. way back to his self build days on Canford Heath & all the people who lost money because of his actions & why his company is called Seven Developments & the real money men behind him.
E.M. is only interested in whats in it for him & his associates.
His suggestion for the fans to stump up the money is quite simply "why pay for something,when you can get someone else to pay"
If he had your club & it,s future at heart,then of course he would come up with the money,that is if he has the funds required!!
I have no axe to grind with E.M. & I am not a football fan,but I do know a bit about his past history & a leopard never changes his spots.
I wish AFCB all the best for the future
but I doubt if it will be with E.M.

cant comment on EM as know nothing about him pre AFCB but why slag off Fletch if you are a fan? Given Fletch's role at the club expect he was merely trying to give a united front.
