SEARCH IS NOT OVER

JIMMY Quinn plans to continue his search for strikers – despite landing Michael Symes on a month’s loan yesterday.

The Shrewsbury Town frontman’s capture rewards Cherries boss Quinn for his tireless chase of attackers, which has seen the League Two club linked with the likes of Anthony Elding, Stuart Beavon and Andy Sandell in recent weeks.

Quinn admitted he was “relieved” to finally sign a centre-forward, especially with veteran Lee Bradbury suspended for tomorrow’s trip to Accrington Stanley.

He said: “It was a strange one because there was a mix-up in communications.

“There was a bit of confusion and crossed wires but it’s okay and signed now and he’s in the squad for tomorrow. We’re going to meet him at the hotel.”

Quinn described Symes’s attributes and it seems the 25-year-old striker, who played alongside Wayne Rooney in the Everton youth set-up, will add physical presence to the Cherries frontline.

“He’s six foot three so he’s a big lad – a big striker – and there’s not too many of those about,” Quinn told the Echo.

“I’ve seen him play and he’s decent in the air and can hold the ball up.

“He’s not going to run over the top but he’s got a decent pedigree and hopefully he will come in and do a good job.”

Despite securing the signature of Symes, who boasts a record of 19 league goals in 49 starts, Quinn is still on the trail of other additions to his squad.

“I’m still looking,” said the Dean Court chief.

“It’s a difficult one because everyone is after strikers. One lad I spoke to had three or four clubs in for him, so that’s what we’ve got to deal with.”

Quinn took a closer look at two trialists in training yesterday and both are likely to feature in a reserve fixture – if the club can arrange a game for next week.

Teenage Eastleigh central defender Aaron Martin impressed the Cherries boss during a practice match earlier this week.

Quinn said: “He’s a young lad with great potential. I had a look at him the other day in a practice game and he looked very composed.”

Croatian forward Romeo Filipovic, who can play on the left flank or as a support striker, is another player being assessed.

“He looks to me to be a player that could turn a game for you and somebody you might be able to put on to get you a goal or create a chance,” said Quinn.

“He’s very, very skilful and technically very good. But he’s just lacking that little bit of fitness because I don’t think he’s played over the past couple of months.”
