SEARCH IS NOT OVER

JIMMY Quinn plans to continue his search for strikers – despite landing Michael Symes on a month’s loan yesterday.

The Shrewsbury Town frontman’s capture rewards Cherries boss Quinn for his tireless chase of attackers, which has seen the League Two club linked with the likes of Anthony Elding, Stuart Beavon and Andy Sandell in recent weeks.

Quinn admitted he was “relieved” to finally sign a centre-forward, especially with veteran Lee Bradbury suspended for tomorrow’s trip to Accrington Stanley.

He said: “It was a strange one because there was a mix-up in communications.

“There was a bit of confusion and crossed wires but it’s okay and signed now and he’s in the squad for tomorrow. We’re going to meet him at the hotel.”

Quinn described Symes’s attributes and it seems the 25-year-old striker, who played alongside Wayne Rooney in the Everton youth set-up, will add physical presence to the Cherries frontline.

“He’s six foot three so he’s a big lad – a big striker – and there’s not too many of those about,” Quinn told the Echo.

“I’ve seen him play and he’s decent in the air and can hold the ball up.

“He’s not going to run over the top but he’s got a decent pedigree and hopefully he will come in and do a good job.”

Despite securing the signature of Symes, who boasts a record of 19 league goals in 49 starts, Quinn is still on the trail of other additions to his squad.

“I’m still looking,” said the Dean Court chief.

“It’s a difficult one because everyone is after strikers. One lad I spoke to had three or four clubs in for him, so that’s what we’ve got to deal with.”

Quinn took a closer look at two trialists in training yesterday and both are likely to feature in a reserve fixture – if the club can arrange a game for next week.

Teenage Eastleigh central defender Aaron Martin impressed the Cherries boss during a practice match earlier this week.

Quinn said: “He’s a young lad with great potential. I had a look at him the other day in a practice game and he looked very composed.”

Croatian forward Romeo Filipovic, who can play on the left flank or as a support striker, is another player being assessed.

“He looks to me to be a player that could turn a game for you and somebody you might be able to put on to get you a goal or create a chance,” said Quinn.

“He’s very, very skilful and technically very good. But he’s just lacking that little bit of fitness because I don’t think he’s played over the past couple of months.”

Hope Michael Symes gets to the hotel early tomorrow so he gets to know his team mates strengths and weeknesses in a kickabout in the foyer! Can't hope for too much with such a late arrival but at least a striker has arrived. Hopefully Brett will be dropped to the bench.

I wish him luck in his quest, we all know that strikers win you games and that with decent ones we would be out of trouble now. None of the plans that the Board have for the Club will ever reach fruition if League status is lost and we are hemorrhaging support with each loss.

I've seen the light! All this arguing & aggression on here and what do we achieve? #### all.I shall now adopt the Flying Leaper approach.Completely lose my marbles and call every game as a win for the Mighty Cherries. He actually lives in Turlin Moor by the way. His house is called El Segundo.

Why not try Lindfield, he's very skilful, technically sound and can run forever. OK may not be able to go 10 rounds with the centre half but clever players are taught to avoid confrontation and use their skill and guile. Quinn knows only one game plan and that's route one football, which will take us straight to the Blue Square.

Some time ago I suggested that the Club could do worse than look at Jamie White, who is quick, sharp and scoring regularly for the Saints Reserves, it is ironic that we take a striker from Shrewsbury and they replace him with Jamie White. It will be interesting to see who gets the best of the bargain.I agree too with the comments re Lindfield he has had a raw deal here and should have played more - his treatment doesn't encourage Club's to loan players to us.

Sq Old Codger, yes I remember. Have Scumton severed ties with us, or was it more simple - we just couldn't afford him cos we've got no ****ing money. Agree about Lindfield. If he is so bad that BP is cosistantly preferred to him, why is he still here? Is he on a year long loan? If so who is responsible? One thing's for sure - Liverpool won't be rushing to give us any more loanees. Let's hope we have a bargain with Symes.

Can only imagine Ted Sutton (The former kids soccer school coach at Everton) is flexing his muscles. No coincidence Symes was part of Everton youth 6 or 7 years ago. Both him and Savi would enjoy severing links with Liverpool, that's about their mentality. Good luck to Symes though, he needs it with that crowd.
