Cherries: Fletch has every confidence in fellow frontmen
STEVE Fletcher is backing his fellow frontmen to come good and is convinced Cherries have the firepower to rediscover their golden touch.
Cherries are the leading scorers in League One with 57 goals but have failed to hit the net on their way to suffering three successive defeats.
Both Matt Tubbs and Lewis Grabban missed good opportunities as Cherries failed to convert some fine chances against Coventry on Tuesday.
But club legend Fletcher, a late substitute in the 2-0 loss at the hands of the Sky Blues, is adamant Eddie Howe’s men will find their shooting boots.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Leyton Orient (3pm), the Cherries veteran told the Daily Echo: “You could probably count on one hand the amount of teams it doesn’t happen to.
“It is something we have got to put right. We had chances on Tuesday and we do score goals. It is proven, the stats are there and we have got good goalscorers in the team.
“On another occasion, we would have been two or three up at half-time. But it is just about getting the rub of the green and that little bit of luck that is not with us. The strikers will be doing the same as we have since the gaffer came back this week, next week and the week after. We stay out two or three times extra every week and do different types of finishing.
“I have been through this dozens and dozens of times in Bournemouth teams, it can happen and you can’t put your finger on it.
“We are not taking our chances and there is no easy solution. We have just got to keep plugging away, one will come and then we will be back where we were.”
Summer signing Grabban leads the club’s goalscoring charts with 13 league strikes in 31 appearances, while Brett Pitman has notched an impressive nine times in 14 since his return from Bristol City.
Cherries dropped out of the play-off places following their unwanted hat-trick of defeats but are just three points off the automatic promotion spots and four adrift of the summit.
Club record appearance-maker Fletcher added: “We have got goalscorers in the team, don’t worry about that. Yes, we might have missed a few chances on Tuesday, but we have got good goalscorers and good finishers.
“It happens to the best in the world. We have to deal with it, get on with it and have the backing of everyone.”
