Cherries: Addison's season is over after foot injury

GOING UNDER THE KNIFE: Cherries skipper Miles Addison
CROCKED Cherries skipper Miles Addison admitted to being both “disappointed and relieved” after discovering his season had come to a premature end.
Defender Addison is set to remain on the sidelines and will go under the knife in London on Friday to cure a persistent foot injury.
The 24-year-old, who made the last of his 20 league appearances at Bury in November, has been plagued by the problem for the past 12 weeks.
Addison had been hoping to avoid surgery but was told it was the only option after a scan had revealed a fracture to his right foot and a torn tendon.
He told the Daily Echo: “I trained about 10 days ago and it wasn’t too bad. But, after I had come out of the session, it was really sore and it was agony when I woke up the next day so I knew something was wrong.
“I saw a specialist in London this week and he said I would require surgery. There hadn’t been much progress in 12 weeks so I was disappointed to find out I would need an operation but relieved at the same time.
“He said he wouldn’t really know the full extent until he went in. But he also said that if the tendon was quite bad, then it would be another 12 weeks.”
Addison, who signed a three-year contract at the start of this season, has also been reassured the injury is not related to the one which kept him out for two years when he was at Derby.
The Londoner is already targeting a pre-season return and says he is hoping Cherries can finish the job he helped them start by winning promotion.
Addison said: “I signed here because I believed the club could get into the Championship. If I never kick a ball again for what ever reason, it would be irrelevant. What matters is what happens to Bournemouth.
“Being injured is the downside but watching the lads win has helped to keep my spirits higher than they would have been. There is responsibility being captain and you have to be less selfish.
“I have never been involved in a squad where there is so much togetherness. The club has been very supportive and so have the lads when they see I am having a down day.
“Reaching the Championship is the be-all and end-all. We are in good shape and have earned our place in the top six. We need to bounce back after Preston and start another run.
“It is up to us to finish off the job over the final 13 games. It doesn’t have to be done in style because it is the business end of the season now.”

That is why I feel that a draw for this Saturday is the best we could hope for. Coventry on Tuesday is also a concern. Obviously if we had Elphick and Daniels we would be more comfortable.
.
We are playing some tough oppostion over the next few weeks and I feel that if we do fail in getting promotion it will be down to defensive frailties. Maybe a couple of loan signings may be in order.

Agreed defensively we are a little shaky, but we are back at court and we are very strong at home. Still 3-2 to us. Ps what's happened to Tranmere??? Regards
.
You ask what has happened to Tranmere - well my answer to that one is - the same thing that will happen to us if we do nat address our cover in defensive postions.
.
I do hope you are right with your prediction for Saturday but I feel that if we concede first it will be game over.

Yes it is a shame. I know we have Seabourne and Painter in on loan, however I do feel that the fabric of our defence has been compromised and indeed slightly weakened. In addition to this we have no cover in defensive positions which is a concern.

The true fans of this club (those that go along most weeks) look at the Sheff Utd fixture as an experience to enjoy and we do, win, lose or draw. That is what is so different and fantastic about this club. But your all too frequent and gloomy posts reveal that you wouldn't know that.
The club has been so close to extinction in the not-too-distant past and saved thanks to the hard work of people like Trevor Watkins and later the money and drive of Eddie Mitchell.
We've experienced the lows under so many managers who tried their best but failed, and then gloried in the rise of our own, home grown star manager who is now firmly "our Eddie". We've battled without any favours from the big-city-favouring Football League. 10 and 17 point deductions, transfer embargo - Pompey don't know how lucky they've been. We've enjoyed battling through those EXPERIENCES, and being there to celebrate our achievements despite the odds. So win, lose or draw we WILL enjoy Saturday.
smhinto, these experiences are beyond the understanding of armchair 'footy fans' who cannot see beyond the often dull Champions League. I've said this many times before, leave your keyboard alone, get out of your chair and come along to the ground and simply ENJOY the experience!

I wish him personally all the luck and best wishes but I am afraid that he is not good enough to get back in this current team.
Too many mistakes and he does not look comfortable enough on the ball for this level.
Once again good luck Miles but may be it's time to move on.

As for all this prediction lark I have been scratching my head and asked why is it necessary to predict an actual score apart from saying that we all wish to see our team win as many games as possible.
Predicting actual scores seems somewhat silly especially when a bad decision by the ref or severe injury two one or more players could turn a game upside down.
I want Bournemouth to beat the hell out of Sheffield United and other teams for that matter but I could not care less if we won by one, two, three or a dozen goals what matters is that we get the points.

TedMacsCherryPants wrote:Think 12 pts is perhaps a tad optimistic but I like your enthusiasm! Can't believe the amount of doom and gloom after just one defeat. Would prefer to see Richie reverting to left back on saturday, nothing against Painter but think we need to keep some sort of continuity in the back 4. As for Addison. Nice guy, clearly has a lot of affection for the club and proud to be captain. Unfortunately on the pitch he's not good enough, he's good in the air and strong in the tackle but is too slow and cumbersome, he panics on the ball and has the turning circle of the titanic. Elphick and Cook could be our central defensive pairing for the next decade. utciad

I think Addison can be a good squad player and Eddie can get the best out of him. He came here a decent centre half and Groves turned him into a Sunday league player!
As for Smhinto saying we need to bring in loans, what are Painter and Seabourne?
Very difficult game this weekend but we can get the victory
In Eddie and Jason we trust! UTC!
