Cherries: Daniels could miss rest of season

ANXIOUS WAIT: Charlie Daniels
CHERRIES star Charlie Daniels faces an anxious wait to discover whether his season may have come to a premature end.
Daniels has missed Cherries’ past three games due to a persistent foot problem and will again sit out when Eddie Howe’s men meet League One rivals Crewe at Gresty Road tonight.
The 25-year-old, a key performer in Cherries’ revival under Howe, had been playing through the pain barrier since taking a heavy blow to his right foot during the FA Cup clash at Wigan last month.
Although Daniels managed to start Cherries’ next four games, including the cup replay against the Latics, he was eventually taken out of the firing line for the visit of Crewe to Dean Court 17 days ago.
And while an initial scan revealed the Londoner had not sustained any serious damage, Daniels has continued to feel discomfort and has been unable to hit the comeback trail.
As a result, Daniels was referred to a specialist for a second opinion and had a consultation and thorough examination earlier today.
He was told to rest for another fortnight to see whether the damage would heal – with an operation the likeliest course of action should there be no sign of improvement.
And should Daniels be forced to go under the knife later this month to cure the problem, it would almost certainly rule him out for the rest of the season.
News of Daniels’s predicament will come as a major blow to Cherries, with boss Howe likely to immediately step up his search for a loan left-back rather than wait a fortnight to see if Daniels recovers.
Cherries’ resources for tonight’s clash against Crewe have been further depleted with both defender Tommy Elphick and winger Marc Pugh unavailable.
Despite having intensive treatment to a knee injury and training yesterday with Howe’s squad, Elphick was deemed not fit enough to travel to south Cheshire.
And while Howe was keen to give Pugh until the last minute to recover from a bout of flu, he was confined to his sick bed and also did not make the trip north.

Although he looks like a Sunday pub team player when he runs, Brett's goals scoring record speaks for itself. Well done to the whole team tonight and the hardy 250 odd regulars who travelled up to Crewe. I wish I could have been there. To win away from home with three regular first team players out of the side, was nothing but miraculous. Top of the league and living the dream.
WE ARE GOING UP,SAID,WE ARE GOING UP! To all the "Know nothing about football brigade" who are questioning our beloved managers decisions regarding letting Zubar go and bringing Brett back i think now's the time to admit you haven't got a clue, bow to the superior knowledge of more studious and enlightened supporters and, most of all, apologise to Eddie Howe for daring to doubt him.Now be quiet and enjoy the ride!

No - the league doesn't lie, you are top well done - but sometimes it can flatter to deceive ... i.e. 1 point and playing one game more than others.
Is it 11 games to go - all can change and there will a few ups and downs for all I expect in that time.

Yes things could go wrong during the last "14" games but dont forget we gave everyone a 12 -15 point head-srart.
As i have said all along, we take each game as it comes and see where it takes us. Regards.

C & F, we layed the trap and you fell headfirst into it. Looking at the league, it's starting to take shape now, below Yeovil in 7th there is a 7 point gap. Whether or not we can stay top is debatable, but we beat Crewe without 3 key players and we now have things in our own hands.

Try harder, you are letting it slip lately - perhaps the promotion mist is descending - and a quick gust of wind will put that right ..... oh dear, bump its back down on earth again ... Kerplunk !!

So this is your fantastic hero then - oh well.
Totally ruined his hard earned credit and appeared to show his true colours.
