Cherries: Lowe phones Elphick to apologise

UNDER-fire MK Dons striker Ryan Lowe has phoned Tommy Elphick to apologise for the horror tackle that left the defender with an injured knee.

Lowe's X-rated challenge on on the Cherries captain during the first-half of Saturday's 3-0 win at stadium:mk sparked a furious reaction from fans and Elphick's team-mates.

But Elphick, who is facing a two to three-week spell on the sidelines, this evening confirmed Lowe had called to say sorry.

Elphick tweeted: "Fair play to Ryan Lowe calling me and apologising."

Dons boss Karl Robinson said the striker would speak with youngsters in Milton Keynes to advise them not to react in the manner he did.

Robinson told the MK News: “Lowe’s got a commitment to the community now to make sure kids in Milton Keynes don’t react in that way.

“He will help the kids in MK learn a lesson by this lesson that he has had to learn. I think it is important we use it as a positive rather than a negative from now on.”

Lowe, who made a public apology in a post-match media interview, was sent off for the two-footed lunge, which Cherries boss Eddie Howe labelled “disgusting”.

Prior to Elphick's tweet, Robinson had earlier claimed he had phoned Howe three times to ask for the defender's number but had not heard back.

The MK manager, who has issued Lowe with a fine, added: “I am happy Elphick is not out for long. You don’t want to see any player out injured and especially when it is due to a disgusting tackle like that.

“Ryan is gutted. That is not his character. He is a very grounded family man who is deeply ashamed and embarrassed about what he did.”

Howe shouldn't give Elphicks number out as far as I'm concerned, convey a message yes.... Tommy has to contend with getting himself fit, I should think the last thing he wants to do is talk to either Robinson or Lowe Life...

Well that makes it all hunky dory then...he tries to break Tommo`s leg but finishes up out of the game for less a period than it will take Tommo to recover...something not quite right here.

Why is the ECHO even wasting space on this c**t. That tackle was a shocker and Tommy was lucky it wasn't worse. Maybe he should donate a months wages to a charity of Tommy's choice instead. That might show a bit more remorse

I work with a school just down the road from the ground which was targeted for seats for a pound as a way of promoting MK Dons for 'family entertainment.'
Actually Mr Lowe you don't have to tell these kids anything as they are all blessed which infinitely more common sense and the knowledge of the difference between right and wrong than you obviously are. And Mr Robinson will use it as a positive? That RL's attempt to wreck a footballer's career was just a split second away from becoming a reality. How very positive. No wonder the MK Dons have such an appalling disciplinary record.

The FA has no teeth or at least they appear uninterested unless it was a player from the Premiership.

It may seem draconian but in these kinds of circumstances the FA could consider banning the culprit for the same number of games that the injured player has to miss.

So if Tommy ended up with a broken leg and out for the season, Lowe should have also been banned for that same period.

I know I am going to get some flak for suggesting this but it is the only language that thugs understand.

With the exception of the starred Anglo Saxon I wholeheartedly agree. There's been a lot of hyperbole written about this assault and I believe that a gesture such as this would hit Lowe hard in his pocket as well as involving Tommy in directing how best the money should be spent.
Great idea!
PS I would hope Lowe would be truthful in front of the children but I'm not holding my breath.

Someone at MK must read the posts on this forum. Yesterday i raised the point about all those poor kids who probably idolise that yob Lowe and today this story surfaces.
In light of the better news for Tommy i do think we should let this go "for now" and move on, in order that we dont look like a bunch of whingers. I say "for now" because if we do cross swords with the coward again he will be reminded of his loutish behaviour for sure.!!!!!.

Only saw the tackle yesterday, and it's a real sickner. There was obviously no intent for low in going for the ball, he was looking to take out Tommy. With the resultant outcome I hope the mangement at AFCB have got the lawyers involved to seek charges or look at a cival suit. Reminded me of Roy Keane on Haaland, he just wanted to take him out of the game to.

. Lowe needs a bigger punishment from the FA for what he did. . . but you cant really start court cases over this kind of thing...... Can you imagine it in a year or two. . . After a few high profile court cases, players will be reluctant to go in for a proper tackle. . . . . . The game will become like NETBALL.

Spot on Eddie, regrettable as it is it's time to move on. What goes around comes around and we have bigger things to deal with in the short term, notably bashing Pompey on Saturday and shutting up that moron Dorset blue. Seaborne is more than capable of picking up the mantle!

I suggest you get back to your own forums and worry about a resurgent Hartlepool, while we do the same about Pompey.

Come back when you have played your AWAY fixtures to Tranmere, Doncaster, Brentford, Sheff Utd,MK, Coventry if you are still above us then!

True we could have done, but we make our own opportunities.

We've closed the gap on them and the top 2 teams and it has taken a lot of consistancy to do this, so what's to worry about? If we keep up a similar run of results there are plenty of points up for grabs for us so we will be up there at the end of the season and are still in touching distance of the automatic places. The Eddie and Jason juggernaut is still rolling, UTC!

Let's not get dragged down to LeGob's level. Keep your feet on the ground and dont get to far ahead of ourselves. Take each game as it comes as there will certainly not be any easy games. Second is that if Tommy Elphick was prepared to speak to Lowe and say "fair play for contacting me"...Then its time to put it to bed and take it for what it was."A moment of total madness"...Before anyone decides to tell me i am sticking up for him.Don`t bother because i was there and it was plain assault...Forget Lowe, forget the small town in Oxford and save your breath and voices for the final push to the summit as Sir Edmund Hilary would have said !!

We've got ourselves into a position now where we don't have to worry too much about what other sides are doing. Concentrate on our own results and if we keep our win percentage at the level its been at since Eddie's return right up til the end of the season it is pretty likely we'll be in the top two. Still a long way to go and 100 points still on!
