LOAN OVER: Wes Thomas has returned from Blackpool
CHERRIES boss Eddie Howe is today due to hold talks with Wes Thomas regarding his immediate future following the end of his loan spell with Blackpool.
Thomas has returned to Dean Court after Cherries politely rejected a request by the Championship outfit to extend his loan stay at Bloomfield Road.
The 25-year-old striker netted three times in nine appearances for the Tangerines and had been expected to make the move permanent during the current transfer window.
However, rather than table a bid for Thomas, Blackpool asked to take him back on a month’s loan and may have been hoping to keep him for the remainder of the season – with Cherries continuing to partly fund his wages.
Howe reluctantly gave Thomas permission to join Blackpool at the end of November after the east Londoner had made it clear he wanted to go, claiming Cherries could not guarantee him first-team football.
Thomas, who has 18 months to run on his existing contract with Cherries, reunited with Michael Appleton at Bloomfield Road after enjoying a fruitful loan spell under him at Portsmouth earlier this season.
Speaking to the Daily Echo last night, Howe said: “I will sit down with Wes first thing tomorrow and have a chat about how he feels. I will also convey our feelings as a football club and what we think and we will take it from there.
“We have to do what is best for this club. Wes has only got 18 months left on his contract so decisions will have to be made. We will sit down with Wes and see which way he wants to go.”
Howe, who is an admirer of Thomas and welcomed him back following his loan spell at Pompey, added: “His ability as a player has never been in doubt. He is a goalscorer and a very good athlete. He can certainly play so the fact he went to Blackpool and did well was not a surprise.
“I am sure there would have been a lot of other Championships clubs that would have looked at him. We very much need to see where he is and where he wants to be and then take it from there.”
Meanwhile, midfielder Mark Molesley has returned to Dean Court following the expiry of his loan spell with League Two strugglers Plymouth Argyle.
Molesley is expected to rejoin Howe’s squad in training once he has recovered from a minor back problem.
Howe is also pondering whether to allow young defender Jon Meades to extend his loan agreement with AFC Wimbledon. Meades is likely to be given the green light to stay, providing Cherries can have a 24-hour recall.
Josh Wakefield (Dagenham & Redbridge) and Aristide Bassele (Lincoln City) have both returned to Dean Court following their end of their respective loan spells.

If Barnard is going back, then we need someone who can lead the line, and WT could be the man. If anyone can get the best out of him it's Eddie.

EH obviously doesn't rate Tubbs and WT would give us another option to change the game.

IMO though, under no circumstances should he play in the cup until and unless he has committed himself to AFCB.

In the end it's Wes that will decide whether he wants to go, or remain and fight for a place. He was out on loan when Eddie and Jason returned to the Club, was recalled and injured almost immediately and when fit again, soon asked to go - the portents aren't good, but I dont think that Groves gave him too much of a chance and Eddie gas seen little of him, but rates him. As for Tubbs, his attitude is right and he is coming on regularly as a sub and looks likely to score, it's probably a case of getting a lucky break and scoring to set him off on a run. As for Pitman, as Eddie pointed out it would take a couple of months to get him match fit and he is playing in a deeper role, give him time.Looking ahead, we have 7/8 players who will not be good enough to play in a higher division - or to be part of a side capable of winning the League and there will have to be a clear out at the end of the Season to make room for better players. I would certainly now be looking at our Dutch players, now fit and very well paid, but who can't even get on to the bench, it surely must be in their career interests to move on and play regularly..

I hope that Eddie doesn't go for Bartley to come back as he just wouldn't have the pace that the current team plays at. Give Tubbs a start against Wigan with Grabban and leave sulky pants, Pitman, on the Bench to get him fired up!

As for the negative comments about Brett, get real you muppets! We've all seen what he's capable of and he's combining well with Grabban. He will get us vital goals before the season ends for sure.
It's a shame things didn't work out here for Lee Barnard. I thought he was the best signing of the summer but he didn't quite live up to his billing. Still, I don't think EH gave him much of a chance in recent weeks. Perhaps because of an expensive pay as you play deal?
I fancy us to get a draw at Wigan. We've got nothing to lose, so I hope we play with freedom and style.

Agree with SOC that a large clearout will happen in the summer. Could well start now. This applies whatever division we are in next year, but I think it will be League 1. There was too much ground to make up after Groves and we can't keep winning all the time. A bad spell is bound to arise. Playoffs are obviously on, but it's a big ask to overhaul the top 2 and keep other teams like Swindon and Brentford at bay, so I don't think autos are realistic this year.

Very similar thing happened down the road, when Jason Puncheon fell out with Adkins and didn't want to play for the club. He was shipped out on loan and eventually apologised and is now probably their best in form player. Hang on to Wes, remember he had a good goal scoring record for us when he came to us. It was only when under previous management, when we stopped playing attacking football he stopped scoring. Difficult to score when the ball is in your own half for the majority of the game. He'll be needed in case of injuries. If anyone can get the best from him and improve him as a player, it will be Eddie Howe.

I used to take a disabled friend to home matches and every year he gave me a parking permit for the disabled parking.
We have to ignore some people on here because as the good Lord said 'forgive them because they know not what they do'!

Remember you can only afford to come to 2 matches a year, So i hope you did'nt get your own parking place.
Maybe they would let you park behind the goal at the south end, then you would'nt have to get out the car and they could serve you tea and sandwiches during half time. you could maybe help by flashing your headlights when the away team tries to shoot thus blinding them.

I live in kenya helping the ophans, so i find your moaning about parking a little pathectic. I'm over 60 with leg problems but it does not stop me lending a hand to the not so gifted. I have followed the cherries since the 50s, Thanks to player i can hear the live match commentry then later during the week see the matches, the kids love it and have become cherries fans.

I was at Brentford and when Tubbs came on ,he changed the game with us looking much better. I watched Thomas and he couldnt hit a barn door at 20 yards when he was playing for us. I really dont understand some supporters next some of you will be turning on Eddie Howe
