Cherries: Howe desperate to keep Tubbs

BOSS Eddie Howe has told potential suitors that Matt Tubbs remains part of his Cherries plans by insisting: “We don’t want to lose him.”

Striker Tubbs has seen his first-team opportunities limited this season having scored four goals in five starts and 12 substitute appearances.

Cherries’ club record signing last January, Tubbs has a proven record which could spark interest when the transfer window opens today.

Rotherham United, managed by Tubbs’s former boss Steve Evans, and Crawley Town are both understood to be looking for a forward.

Evans is a known admirer of Tubbs and has previously failed with several bids to reunite with the man he worked with successfully at Crawley.

He could revive his interest in the Verwood-raised frontman, while the Broadfield Stadium legend might also appeal to Crawley.

However, Cherries manager Howe wants to keep the 28-year-old and says he will get chances to shine as the season progresses.

Discussing the possibility of interest in Tubbs, Howe told the Daily Echo: “I am sure he will attract attention because he is a proven goalscorer. Wherever he has played, he has scored goals.

“Tubbsy is very much part of our plans and our squad and we don’t want to lose him.

“At the moment, Lewis (Grabban) and Brett (Pitman) have got the shirts and have |performed very well but I am |sure Matt, along with others, will get opportunities.”

Tubbs, who has scored twice in two starts and seven substitute appearances under Howe, produced a lively cameo display against Crawley on Saturday.

Speaking ahead of today’s clash with League One promotion rivals Brentford at Griffin Park (3pm), Howe added: “Whenever he has come on, he has performed well. He is certainly valued by me and the players.

“His attitude has been first class. I would be desperate to keep him.”

Two strikers that could both soon head through the Dean Court exit, meanwhile, are Lee Barnard and Wes Thomas.

Barnard is expected to officially return to parent club Southampton when his loan deal expires after the Brentford game.

Championship outfit Blackpool, who currently have Thomas on loan, look likely to launch a bid to sign him permanently during January.

Then give him a game. With such a large squad, surely squad rotation should be given a go ?

Pitman looked tired against Creepy, why not give him a rest and playTubbsy?

Yes time for rotation, a great super-sub but he deserves a start.

Like matt, think he should get more time on the pitch but not in starting eleven. If we lose Thomas Tubbs and Barnard in january then suddenly our striking options look very weak

Matt Tubbs' goal scoring record speaks for itself. Whether non league or lower league, the boy knows where the back of the net is. He has shown tremendous loyalty to Afcb, even though the club has passed him on three times previously.Time is running out for him he needs a continuity of games to show his worth. Come on Eddie, give him a chance even if it's off the bench to start with. We could do without another Wes Thomas situation where we have players sitting on the bench long term and don't want to play for the club. Give him a good run out today!

Not today give him a start against Wigan on Saturday but think Eddie might just be talking the price up

. . As I recall it was Tubbs who knocked Hull out of the F A cup last year. . . . I think we will regret it if he goes. . . . Earlier in the season some fans on here were saying Wes Thomas & Grabban were only good enough for division 2. .( rediculous )................. SOME PEOPLE on here cant tell the difference between a Rugby ball a Football.

Your name says it all!!! Tubbs is a quality finisher and should get more game time, to be honest I would rather see him start than Pitman. ....

Anyhow good luck today boys!

Happy new year to one and all.

I haven’t seen enough of Tubbs to make a balanced comment about whether he should stay or be sold. I am sure that EH is a better judge of players than me so if he is genuine in what he says I have no problem with it. I do however think that (from what I have seen of him) he is no donkey.

As for today’s score.

I would take a 1-1 draw but prefer a 0-1 or 0-2 win for us.UTCIAD

Personally, I believe that we wll get more goals out of Wes Thomas than we will Tubbs.
.
I am not saying Tubbs is a bad player but I maintain that he is not League One material. Although his current efforts have been recognised.
.
Dear STEADY EDDIE
.
Ref my Arter post - I agree that Hughes would be an ideal replacement for Arter. But Hughes is not (90 mins) match fit for the Brentford game, especially on a heavy pitch with a hamstring strain.
.
So if Arter is not playing today we will be severely depleted in midfield and Brentford away is the last game you want to play with the spine of our midfield missing.
.
If our fantastic run is going to end it will will more than likely be today in view of the injuries. Naturally I do hope i am wrong.
.
Regards
