PIRATES chief Matt Ford is backing new recruit Dawid Stachyra to show his true quality at Wimborne Road next season.
Ford was speaking after agreeing terms to make the Polish rider Pirates’ seventh and final signing for the 2013 campaign.
Promoter Ford revealed a deal had been struck hot on the heels of the Daily Echo exclusively reporting Pirates’ interest in Stachyra on Saturday.
A former Ipswich and Belle Vue man, Stachyra has been snapped up on a 4.16 average and will go straight into the main body of the Pirates line-up.
Although Stachyra endured a brief and disappointing spell on his last appearance in Britain with the Aces in 2011, Ford is adamant he will have more to offer when he dons the skull and crossbones this year.
He told the Daily Echo: “I think signing Dawid was an opportunity too good to miss.
“He had such a good season in 2012 and finished sixth in the Polish division one averages ahead of the likes of Scott Nicholls, Linus Sundstrom, Hans Andersen and Peter Karlsson.
“He has got experience in Britain but did not achieve as much as he should have.
“I think Britain will see a different rider in Dawid Stachyra next year.”
Stachyra, who achieved a 4.58 average while riding for Ipswich in 2010, completes a largely new-look Pirates team for 2013.
Darcy Ward, captain Chris Holder and Kyle Howarth are the only survivors from last season’s team that finished as Elite League runners-up and Knockout Cup winners.
Pirates 2013: Darcy Ward, Chris Holder, Maciej Janowski, Robert Miskowiak, Dawid Stachyra, Rohan Tungate, Kyle Howarth.
