Cherries: Thumb injury won't halt Wes

CHERRIES star Wes Fogden is vowing to keep playing through the pain barrier after suffering a nasty thumb injury during the 2-1 win at Scunthorpe on Saturday.

Fogden, who netted to put Cherries 2-0 ahead at Glanford Park, partially dislocated the thumb to his right hand towards the end of the first half.

But despite being in considerable discomfort, the lively winger was able to continue in the second half after being fitted with a brace at the interval.

Fogden, who has scored twice in two games since being restored to the starting line-up, will probably need to protect his thumb with a bandage should he keep his place against Colchester.

The 24-year-old told the Daily Echo: “The ball was smacked quite hard at me and I could feel it straight away.

“But as I had the ball at the time, I couldn’t go down for treatment so continued playing. Once the ball had gone out of play, I could feel the pain getting worse and worse and my thumb started swelling up.

“Fortunately, it wasn’t fully dislocated but it is quite badly swollen. Nothing was going to make me come off. I just love playing and want to stay out there for as long as I can.”
