Cherries: Howe's men drawn away to Wigan

CHERRIES have this afternoon been drawn away to Premier League Wigan in the third round of the FA Cup.

Eddie Howe's men saw off Carlisle in the second round at Brunton Park yesterday and will travel to the DW Stadium on the weekend of January 5/6.

Agree that it is a game that we can win.

Hmmm. Of all the Premiership options, this is about as glamourless as it gets - I.e. feeble crowd, little atmosphere and even less TV interest. Far from a lost cause, though.

Last Premier Club I wanted and we could certainly cause an upset, although Martinez has them playing some very good football....

Could have been worse, it'll be a tough game against a good Wigan side. They're beatable but we will have to be at our best. Get your cameras out for a snap of the pier!

4th round here we come!

Why is everyone so negative? Granted not the best team (which means a better chance of winning) but it's still a premier league tie, where there are the best pies in the country! Let's have a go at a proper cup run, UTCIAD

I'm sure you could fill out there end for you Cup Final against this Premier League club 4500 supporters should make a good atmosphere it's probably more noise than Stamford Bridge or Old Trafford.

Who cares? Field the reserve team for a run out and let's concentrate in getting into the play-off places. We don't need the money and it's not like a mini cup run is going to give us a trip to Wembley, is it?

No dream on you'll never make the dreaded Play offs as there are so many teams better than Boremouth in this poor league. Sheffield United and Notts County ,Swindon, MK,Doncaster,Brentfo
rd and even Tranmere and Creepy Crawley have shown they will fill the top spots where as your team will be stuck in mid table after Eddies bubble bursts Can't wait to invade your home seats in Feb. PUP

No. But they will not get past Chelsea and he won't be cup tied then as there is no way he'll be included in their squad.

Yeah, you're probably right. Still. It doesn't hurt to dream a little, does it? Shame that BAE systems are closing in Portsmouth. A town with so much naval history deserves to have a shipyard. Hope you manage to stay up. Who knows in a season or two, we may both be able to put one over one our beloved neighbours! Regards.

Things must be awfully boring for supporters of football clubs nearby because instead of supporting their club they seem to be more interested in ours.

As for the draw it could have been worse not much!! but it could have been. Let us hope that Wigan are not interested in progressing with the FA Cup and field some of their less experienced players and we turn them over. Whatever the case we can certainly hold our head up high. UTCIAD

Wigan will certainly play their reserves. We played them in the league cup at DW stadium a few years ago.I don't remember the crowd being over 3,000.Unless we win it will be a money loser and we have to arrange Hartlepool away for a Tuesday night.

Cant believe people are saying this is a pointless tie? There are always a couple of poor Prem sides who lose to a football league sides, Wigan are often one.

They've lost to Swindon and Notts County in the past few seasons, and Bradford beat them in the League Cup. Nothing to lose if you ask me...

I would prefer we concentrate on promotion, the FA cup has lost its charm and we dont need extra matches on bad pitches during february.

Invade our home seats in Feb?Ha Ha Ha!Nice one!Tell you what, worry about the good sides in League 2 cos that's where your heading, provided you survive ofcourse.
By all means hope Pompey do survive, wouldn't like to see any team go to the wall due to the incompetance or underhand dealings of any corrupt regimes as it's the real fans that always suffer, but it makes me laugh when gob sh***s come on here to give it the big one when they should be worrying about the mess in their own back yard.

Shame it's Wigan!!! Very far to travel in what will be a near empty stadium, at least we shall out number Wigans supporters quite easily!!!

Maybe we can win you never know? Realistically if they do play some of their first team then it will be a huge challenge!!! But what have we got to lose!!! COME ON BOURNEMOUTH!

It wouldnt have lost its charm if we had drawn Arsenal at the Emirates as for extra matches with the size of our squad just what we could do with.

Can't see the wigwam 'faithful' being overly interested in our visit, so a crowd in excess of 5 or 6k is unlikely.

Is part of the Draw missing? Couldnt find The Skates' Rnd 3 tie anywhere... and they coulda done with a money spinning visit from a Chelsea for sure!
