Cherries: Exeter clash is off due to frozen pitch

CHERRIES' clash with Exeter City at Seward Stadium tomorrow has been postponed due to a frozen pitch, the club has confirmed.

The playing surface at Dean Court has been covered all week, while volunteers yesterday covered the ground with a layer of straw in a bid to keep the game on.

But with temperatures plummeting to around -4c overnight, the pitch has been deemed unplayable.

The fixture will now be played next Tuesday, February 7 with a 7.45pm kick-off.

Undersoil heating needed as part of the ground improvements or if we get to the Championship. The cold snaps are getting worse even for sunny Bournemouth! If this game is now a midweeker I don't think we will get the same attendance as if it was a Saturday.

Called off at 11am today when the match isn't due to be player for another 28 hrs. Couldn't they have borrowed Fletch's hair dryer.

Excellent. A midweek game for me to look forward to as I can't get to weekend games! Feel sorry though for all those who turned up yesterday to help spread straw on the pitch to no avail!
UTCIAD!

I am gutted. I cant make it as I will be working during the week.
I am sure tomorrow would have being close to 8,000 attendance . Now more likely 3500 -4000

At the least the club and officials have had the sense to make an early decision to avoid away fans having to travel. Especially when you think about the recent MK Dons v Carlisle debacle.

Stupid. The attendance would never be that low.

Was really looking foreward to tomorrow. Hate going to evening games in the middle of winter.
Forecast not a great deal warmer on Tuesday so it is possible that game may be off then also.

Real shame as the game would have got a good attendance and a win really could have galvanised support. I just hope the buzz from all the new signings hasn't died by the next home fixture.

I'd be surprised if it warms up enough to thaw the pitch out by Tuesday, it would need to be above about 5 degrees even overnight for that to happen. Optimistic I think, disappointing to miss out tomorrow but at least an early decision means no-one wastes their time, especially the away fans. anyone remember Luton a few years back, match called off at 7.44pm with a 7.45pm kick off time!!

At least I know I should not set off travelling tomorrow from Surrey - thanks for the early notification afcb. Think it would have been a bit worse than bracing in the stands anyway.

MK should have been fined for that

Thought that this would happen - walked my dogs over the Golf Course twice today and the ground is like iron and with -6C forecast for tonight - it wasn't going to get any better - there is also the possibility of a moderate fall of snow tomorrow afternoon. A sensible and early decision.

You're an idiot. Any supporter will be missed. Because they're paying customers and that's how businesses work, muppet. You must be as thick as 2 short planks.

I remember going up to a midweek game at Luton when Tubbs was on Loan here several years back. It was a great game 3-3.
Mark Moseley had a blinder. Anderton was on the bench.
One of the colder games Ive experienced, it took two hours to thaw out on the coach home.

Oh dear Freddie, if you're going to attempt to make a name for yourself as a troll you might like to set your sights a bit higher than the local rags message board. Is it because you have a small winky or do they use too many big words on the Guardians CIF?

Particular shame this has happened against Exeter, who would have brought a decent support. Early decison sensible & appreciated. Hope evrybody bought advance tickets and will turn up on tuesday - night games have their own atmosphere!

Credit to Neill Blake for liaising with Exeter all week and therefore ensuring a quick re-sheduling of the game. Well done to the ground staff for all their effort this week, they have put in a lot of hours, & of course to the volunteers who turned up to try & help.Well done to the match ref travelling down a day early so that a decision could be made early enough to prevent anyone travelling. It's a shame but a lot of people have put in a lot of work this week to try and ensure it went ahead, we've had the covers on since Monday. Ground was rock hard today even with several of us walking over it, it was obvious it was not going to get any softer. Getting the straw removed so the ref could do the inspection was fun!

Fleetwood put the covers down early this week and are going ahead today :) Much colder and bitter up North !!! .Anyway it saves the disappointment of the brainwashed that a 2nd division player was going to have the fans hanging from the rafters !! The blame for the crowd on Tuesday ( if the weather helps more than the *cherries* covers ) is already being made NIGHT MATCH HE SCREAMED - MIDWEEK SHE SCREAMED -- o dear lol

If you've read his book, it was after being benched for that match Anderton decided to retire on the following Saturday.
