Cherries: Great comeback but Howe left with mixed feelings

BOSS Eddie Howe admitted to having mixed feelings following Cherries’ 2-2 draw at Huddersfield on Saturday.

Howe praised his players for their character and powers of recovery after they came from behind to claim a share of the spoils at the Galpharm Stadium.

But he was also left to rue a brief spell before and after half-time when Cherries surrendered the lead by conceding twice in the space of three minutes.

Howe looked on as Josh McQuoid’s 32nd-minute opener – his fourth goal in three games – handed Cherries the lead during an opening period dominated by the visitors.

But Antony Kay’s header and a Gary Roberts penalty either side of the break saw the Terriers edge ahead before Marc Pugh nodded home an equaliser 11 minutes from time.

Howe said: “The lads showed great character to come back and it was a really good response from them.

“I think the display was more evidence to the players that we are a good side. It wasn’t just the result but the manner in which it came about.

“Without being disrespectful to Huddersfield, we played all the football. We played from back to front, which is sometimes the hardest way to play, and I was delighted with how the players performed and acquitted themselves.”

Kay levelled in first-half stoppage-time when he powered a header past Shwan Jalal from a Roberts corner, only the third time Cherries had conceded from a flag kick in more than a 12 months.

Howe added: “We only conceded twice from set-plays last season but we had more height in the side.

“Where we have lost that edge from set-plays, we have perhaps gained it in different areas. But it’s still something we need to improve on. When you dominate games, sometimes the opposition’s only route is a set-play and they punished us.

“We have noticed a difference in height coming up a division and have got to defend set-plays better because they are so important and will cost you if you don’t defend them correctly.”

This League is so different from last year's football.
The team have to keep their minds on the game for the full ninety minutes.
We cannot afford repeats of the Clownty game or the fact we could have won at Huddersfield.
We were the better team, we should have won.
Having said that, I am 101% behind the team and staff.
They learn from their mistakes and can only get better.
This team is so much more class than when they played last season.

I take it that many of you have seen the BBC TELETEXT page 338, stating that Strachan is interested in signing Mr jason Pearce ???

If true who will be next ??

Then if he and others go we will get some 'balloon head' wondering why we start to lose football matches.

Then some 'burke' will be wondering why we will be slipping down the League.

Then some 'fool' will be wondering why we are back in League Two.

Then some 'twit' will be wondering why the gates are back around the 3000 mark.

All because we are 'hell bent' on selling our assets and stripping a successful side - the mind just boggles!!!. Then of course it will be the supporters who will be asked to fill the begging bowls once again.

Once again it will the usual retoric from the board stating that there has been no interest in any of our players, when in reality a deal is being struck behind closed doors - You know Typical AFCB

And so the cycle repeats!! It makes me so mad

What makes me so mad is reading your babble! Where do you get off?
If its'not one thing you're moaning about it's another. Do you always find the pessimistic angle in everything in life? If so, you must be a right chuckle on a night out.....
Your 'info' is a BBC gossip column quote that has been extracted from the Daily Mirror.
If Man United signed every player based on the newspaper stories they'd have a squad of 500 - Get a grip pleeeeeease!!
Does the 'true story' make any mention of the Club's view on this or quotes from anyone else for that matter? Of course it doesn't so please stop with the s*** stirring.
Just because we're scoring loads of goals at the moment (which totally contradicts you're usual spoutings of doom regarding our attacking options) please don't find some other non story to jump on.
As an aside; do you ever have anything positive to say? You need to top up your half full glass once in a while my ol' fruit!!
If you're looking for balloon heads, fools, burkes and twits then i'd look a bit closer to home if i were you.
Kind Regards

We have no problem scoring goals, it is stopping others that is the problem, lets stop drawing games we should be winning.fear-come

If we signed and lost every player that media 'rumour control' talks about we would have a completely different team every week.
Some of these pundits have to justify their existence with rumour and innuendo.
Unfortunately the media seem to latch on to everything and control the news, you only have to look at the coverage of the alleged Pakistani cricket fraud. It's still top news after a week, or perhaps nothing else has happened in the world for a week !!!!

It stands to reason that if we are doing well that other Clubs will be looking at our players. I just dont get why people seem so put out by that. If we were bottom of the Division losing every game leaking Goals and not scoring any then its safe to say that nobody would look at our Players If Clubs are interested it means we are doing well Look on the bright side

smhinto, you appear to have touched a few raw nerves, but history backs up what you say. You are so right - it is a vicious circle. Selling Pitman was one thing, but there it has to stop. How many times have we seen the guts ripped out of the side. The team then loses the momentum. so many times it has happened. If Mr Mitchell sells any more players, Eddie will start to have doubts. Then the next decent offer and we will lose him. Can't people see that Eddie wants to be at AFCB because of what he has been allowed to build. If the directors start knocking it down he will go and who can blame him. Then more players will go and it's only a question of time before we are back in the mire.

jontee - He hasn't touched a raw nerve with me; it just gets on my earhole that people can't see the bigger picture. EH knew that Pitman was going to be sold months ago; partly to bring in some money but mostly because he wanted away. As soon as the shackles were off with the FL, it appears that EM supported EH in all the aquistions that he wanted and he has said as such that he was grateful to the board for their full support.
As you say, smhinto is right about the historical past - and that is exactly what it is; the past!!
Why can't people try and look to the future? We have to face facts that we are unfortunately a club with a small fanbase and as such if big offers (both for the club and/or the player) come in the fact is people will move whether we like it or not. The way that the well run small clubs get on is to develop players, sell them on and go again. We aren't any different; how can we be? If, as is alleged, that Brett has multiplied his salary almost 12 fold how do you suggest you hold them back? As Somethings Not Right said earlier; things must be going well for anyone to be interested in our team. I'd rather that than be struggling as a side with assets that no one wants.
The fact is Brett has been sold but we have brought in some fine new additions. Paper talk is just column inch filling nonsense 99% of the time and people should treat it as such instead of assuming the worst. The fact is no one is going anywhere for a few months anyway.

No, I agree with you Molbol, the Pitman sale was inevitable. I just don't think its going to end there, unless Eddie is allowed to keep at least most of the gems he unearths, he will not stay. It must be so demoralising to build something up and watch someone else knock it down. Thta's why SOD went to Donny. Still a selling club, but with a balance. AFCB must get that balance, or its the same old merry go round.

Hear Hear molbol - very well said.

The club is in the best state that it has been in decades with thanks to EM, EH/JT and everyone associated with the football revolution that is happening at Fortress Dean Court. I am sure that EH/JT have been supported in any way possible by EM and that will continue for the foreseeable future.

However, while the floating supporters stay away we will remain a selling club. What we *ALL* need to do is to make sure that the attendances are improved. I am continually trying to get others to make the games. As such three of my friends have been convinced to attend a game in September - one of them is even a S**nts fan - ugh!

I suggest that this is the best way to ensure that we can all make sure that our stars stay with us.

Onwards and upwards.

UP THE CHERRIES!!!
