LEE Bradbury admitted Cherries needed to quickly rediscover their best form if they are to remain in the promotion places after his return to the scoresheet was ruined by defeat.
The veteran utility man, who scored twice at Grimsby last season, continued to find Blundell Park a happy goal-hunting ground when he netted his first strike for more than a year yesterday.
His 42nd -minute header cancelled out Jamie Devitt’s opener to put Cherries back on level terms against their relegation-threatened hosts. But goals from Michael Coulson, courtesy of a dubious handball, and Ashley Chambers – either side of Liam Feeney’s fortuitous strike – condemned Cherries to a last-gasp 3-2 loss.
The Dean Court outfit’s woes were only compounded by Jeff Goulding’s sending off, just seconds after he had been introduced as a 70th-minute substitute.
Bradbury offered no excuses in his assessment of Cherries’ performance.
The former Manchester City and Pompey star told the Echo: “I was pleased to get the goal and it got us back in the game.
“But the main thing was the result. We felt we’d come here and get a positive result but we didn’t do that and I thought we were under par.
“They made it hard for us and pinned us back, especially in the second half. We gave away corner after corner and, with the wind, it was difficult. Having said that, it was the same for both sides.
“They are on a little mini-run, they have a bit of confidence and it is a tough place to come.
“But I didn’t think we were 100 per cent at it – not for the lack of trying – it was just that things didn’t come off for us us.
“There are no excuses. We’re better than we showed yesterday – that’s the disappointing thing.
“All we can do is learn from it and take it on for Saturday.”
With Cherries still in the automatic promotion places ahead of next weekend’s Dean Court clash against Accrington Stanley, Bradbury urged his team-mates to get back on track.
The 34-year-old added: “We’ve got to try to take some positives out of it and learn from it. We’ve got to grow up quick if we want to be in the top three.
“It’s going to be a tight nine games now and we can’t play like that week in, week out, because we’ll be nowhere near it.”

Never mind Rochdale and Bradford Accrington will be no pushover on Saturday and could be one of the deciding games as to weather we even get in the playoffs let alone auto promotion.
They are certainly going to have to up their game, with form teams Rochdale, Chesterfield, Port Vale, Bradford and Burton to come we have a very tough run in to the end of the Season. Given our perennial problems with bottom teams I expected yesterdays result though.

I now have to say that this result has now cost us automatic promotion. I cannot see for the life of me how we are going to hold on to a top three finish. We have now handed the championship to Rochdale (a good side i have to say), we have now handed second place to Notts County in view of their three games in hand, and yes they will not lose them all. We have also handed Rotherham an opportunity to knock us out of the top three in Tuesday when the beat Macclesfield. It seems to me that we are now fully paid up members of the (FGB) Fellowship Guild of Birdbrains for not bring able to hold on for another 20 seconds or so!!! I accept the embargo and injuries is not helping. I can only see us being able to maKe the play-offs in the hope that we will have Cooper and Moseley back to spur us on. Sorry folks automatic promotion is now beyond us. We would now need three straight wins to put us back on course, unfortunatly I cannot see this happening. As always I hope i am wrong. Regards

We had a bad day at the office, thats all. With 9 games to go, with the likes of Hereford & Darlington still to come to the Court, there is still a hell of a lot to play for so talk of a play-off place against an automatic spot is perhaps a little premature! With Perace, Cooper and Molesley due back before end of season, keep the faith and try and keep your glass half ful!!

Sending off looked harsh to me. Did Goulding touch him?
I thought men are men in this division. Apparently not.
We are still up there and Chesterfield
dropped two points during added on time. With Bury losing it's not all bad news.
Come on you reds.
