Cherries: Boss singles out Marv and Josh

MAKESHIFT defender Marvin Bartley and dropped winger Josh McQuoid were both singled out for special praise by boss Eddie Howe following Cherries’ 2-2 draw at Notts County on Monday.

Bartley again starred at the heart of the Cherries defence in an unfamiliar role, while McQuoid was relegated to the bench despite his man-of-the-match exploits against Morecambe.

Howe, who restored Liam Feeney in place of McQuoid, said: “It was a very difficult decision. I just felt Liam had been excellent all season and that was behind my decision.

“Josh played very well against Morecambe and it put him right in my thoughts. He was unfortunate not to get on but I just didn’t want to disrupt our rhythm at a stage when we were well on top.”

Discussing Bartley’s display, Howe said: “I thought Marvin did well. He’s not a centre-half, he’s a central midfielder. We’ve only got one fit centre-half at the club at the moment but he’s doing a great job.

“It’s not easy because you need to play centre-half for a long time before you know the position and there are certain things that don’t come easy to central midfielders when they are put there. But he has shown a great attitude and that’s the main thing. We will accept the mistakes because he is willing to put his reputation on the line in a foreign position. I thought he coped really well.”

Marv was indeed excellent back there, when you consider he was up against one of the most potent, (not to mention thuggish) strikers in the lower leagues, I thought he coped very well.
As for Josh, well the fact that we have Feeney, Connell and McQuoid all wanting those two wide positions produces some competition for places, something we've not had all season and that can only be good.

Marven was great on Monday. He excelled at keeping Hughes at bay and really riled Hughes with his doggedly marking. I think Marv has improved greatly throughout the season and is one ofour best weapons in a match now.
Was a shame Josh McQuoid didn't get a look in on Monday. After the was he has been playing lately he is a challenge for a place in the team.
I suppose we are fortunate that Eddie actually has a choice of players now.

sorry but i think eddie was wrong not playing josh mcquoid,i was as pleased as everyone with that last minute strike, but with both connell and goulding playing its like a 10 1/2 man team they both owe this club to put in far harder performances, josh can play upfront with feeney to give some much needed pace to the attack, how many times does feeney outpace the defence and centre for no-one to be fast enough to keep up,if eddie doesnt rate josh some other club soon will!!!

I feel sorry for Alan and Jeff we have not seen the best of either of them. Jeff's appearances have been few and far between, but he always looks keen and is definately fast for a big man, I am sure that he will score goals regularly I only hope that it is not for another team against us.
