CHAIRMAN Eddie Mitchell has tipped Eddie Howe for a bright future after handing the highly-rated Cherries boss a new three-year contract, writes Ian Wadley.
Howe and his assistant Jason Tindall have both agreed fresh terms and Mitchell was delighted to tie the pair down to long-term deals.
Mitchell says giving the duo lengthy contracts will provide them with the necessary time to build their own team.
Announcing the news yesterday at Dean Court, Mitchell said: “They’ve agreed to a realistic wage, probably less than what they could go out and earn somewhere else, showing their dedication to the club.
“We wanted to give them three-year contracts so they’ve got time to build their team and not have half a team they’ve inherited.
“I think it’s a very worthwhile contract and I’m very pleased. I admire Eddie’s enthusiasm and determination. He speaks very well and he’s got a high regard for the club, the community.
“Although he’s got a short track record in management, what he did was good and I think he can only go on higher up the table eventually.”
Asked how things were progressing off the pitch, Mitchell revealed: “We had a three-hour board meeting (yesterday) and it was very constructive, but I think we’ve all realised we’ve got a mountain to climb.
“It’s just so encouraging that if we’ve got two young men leading the playing outside, hopefully the fans will come on board, support the club in the way they have done in the past and that eases our workload considerably.
“We’re going to need help from the supporters. It’s their club.” It’s not my club, it’s not anybody else’s club – it’s their club.”
