Cherries: Mitchell's faith in dynamic duo

CHAIRMAN Eddie Mitchell has tipped Eddie Howe for a bright future after handing the highly-rated Cherries boss a new three-year contract, writes Ian Wadley.

Howe and his assistant Jason Tindall have both agreed fresh terms and Mitchell was delighted to tie the pair down to long-term deals.

Mitchell says giving the duo lengthy contracts will provide them with the necessary time to build their own team.

Announcing the news yesterday at Dean Court, Mitchell said: “They’ve agreed to a realistic wage, probably less than what they could go out and earn somewhere else, showing their dedication to the club.

“We wanted to give them three-year contracts so they’ve got time to build their team and not have half a team they’ve inherited.

“I think it’s a very worthwhile contract and I’m very pleased. I admire Eddie’s enthusiasm and determination. He speaks very well and he’s got a high regard for the club, the community.

“Although he’s got a short track record in management, what he did was good and I think he can only go on higher up the table eventually.”

Asked how things were progressing off the pitch, Mitchell revealed: “We had a three-hour board meeting (yesterday) and it was very constructive, but I think we’ve all realised we’ve got a mountain to climb.

“It’s just so encouraging that if we’ve got two young men leading the playing outside, hopefully the fans will come on board, support the club in the way they have done in the past and that eases our workload considerably.

“We’re going to need help from the supporters. It’s their club.” It’s not my club, it’s not anybody else’s club – it’s their club.”

Wonderful news for us all who have been concerned about the future of Eddie and Jason.Mr. Mitchell said earlier that he hoped the news would be good by the end of this week, and he has kept his promise in keeping us informed, so many thanks for that.
Good luck to Eddie and Jason and the team for a successful season.

Well done Mr Chairman, so far it's been quite clear how you will be with the fans and that is a breathe of fresh air, let's hope this style of honesty continues even if there are problems, as you said it is the fans club and they will need to know when finances are tough just as much as they like to hear the good news. Your previous encumbant made the mistake of keeping the fans in the dark and those that could have helped never knew just how bad it was until it was nearly too late, just don't let that happen again, you will find we are a forgiving lot if you are honest with us.
