MITCHELL: IF WE CAN'T PAY FOR IT, WE WON'T BUY IT

NEW Cherries chairman Eddie Mitchell is adamant the club must finally get its financial house in order and insists: “If we can’t pay for it, we won’t buy it.”
Mitchell is preparing to lead the club into a new era after recently completing a takeover alongside Adam Murry, Jeff Mostyn, Steve Sly and Neill Blake.
The club’s majority shareholder has already held three meetings with boss Eddie Howe to discuss the playing side – with finance at the top of the agenda.
And while supporters await news on Howe’s contract, the playing budget and the transfer embargo, Mitchell says steadying the ship must take precedence.
He told the Daily Echo: “My first port of call is to address the club’s finances. We’ve brought the wages up to date and will be making our first payment to HMRC this week.
“The response from season ticket sales has been fantastic so it’s all going very well on that front.
“I’ve had three meetings with Eddie (Howe) and one with Jason (Tindall). I would like to think that by the end of next week, all will be revealed and it will be good news.”
Asked for an update on the embargo, Mitchell replied: “We’re working hard to get it lifted and Eddie has expressed his desire to get in one or two new players.
“We’re limited to what we can do at this stage and are trying to stabilise the club’s finances. It’s no good getting players in if you can’t pay for them.
“It’s beyond me how the club expected to continue not to pay the taxman. It was cheating the supporters. We’ve got mountains to climb from what’s been left by the previous regime but I think we will tackle it and get there.
“We’ve got to run this as a business. It’s not my style to have a jolly-up and then run away.”
Mitchell was also asked whether Howe’s playing budget had been determined. He said: “The budget is what we can afford. With Eddie’s wisdom and determination and our determination, I think we will be able to maintain the level at which we finished last season or do better.
“Ever since I can remember, this club has had a lot of turbulence.
“I couldn’t run my business like that and I’m not going to run Bournemouth like that.
“If we can’t pay for it, we won’t buy it and if we can’t solve the inherited debt then it’s going to be tough.
“I haven’t come in to stop people progressing. But it’s no good being unrealistic. My aim is to work as hard as we can with what we can afford.”

It would seem that an arrangement has been made with HMRC to start paying the all important tax commitment, and meetings have been taking place with Eddie and Jason to keep them in the picture with the problems that have to be faced.
Let's all appreciate the efforts of Mr. Mitchell and his board of Directors in trying to bring some stability to our club in the most difficult circumstances.

I just hope Eddie & Jason are patient and stick with us. We are all aware we need two or three new players but if there's no money we just can't have them. This season will be a struggle and mid table will do me nicely. Maybe we can attract some fresh money for the January window; otherwise we will have to pray that we escape injuries and suspensions - something that never seems to happen for us.

I would say it's good news rather than be sceptical about the attitude, some people seem to expect the club to go on a spending spree, I can't understand where they think the money will come from for the players??
I would also suggest that Eddie Howe is going to sign as is mentioned in the press release, next week after the outcome of the league, can't see why it's any other way, if it were he'd have been gone by now and certainly wouldn't have put the effort in he has so far.
I think we have to realise this was always going to be a season to take our medicine, it should have been last season but Sport 6 and especially Savi made a mess of that, so come on we can do much better than bottom 6 and who knows with Eddies contacts we may get one or two players yet that could make the difference, chin up we have a season to look forward to after all.

We can take the short term gamble of getting in people we can't afford and hope we go up or go with what we have and a couple of loans but work within our means.It's a no brainer.We have to pay for the past i'm afraid!!

he obviously doesnt want to throw his money away on which a club needs help. because being a chairmen or owner doesnt give u profit u loose money.. he doesnt wanna be wasting his own money obviously.. just think people :)

It looks like we have got another power hungry looser running Bournemouth football club. I Would rather see the club in the blue square being run by a group of fans because we are going nowhere with these losers.
Ask supporters of Wrexham, ex first division Oxford United, Halifax Town, York City, Mansfield Town etc etc where they would rather be!

At last we have someone who seems to know how to run a business I am sure he will come for some stick from some quarters regarding the buying of new players but at the end of the day it would be lunacy if the club was allowed to run as it has done for the past decades. I have my season ticket have you?
