DORSET’S Lee James needs to improve on today’s opening-round 75 to make the halfway cut of the Telenet Trophy at Royal Waterloo in Belgium.
The Broadstone player was in a share of 105th place – nine shots off the early pace-setter Stuart Manley who carded a six-under-par 66.
“That’s the worst I have hit the ball in a year and to make matters worse I had 35 putts, so it wasn’t a good day all-round,” said James.
James, however, began brightly picking up birdies at the first and third holes before plummeting down the leader board with four successive bogeys from the fourth hole.
His only other blemish came at the par three 15th.
James is currently fourth on the European Challenge Tour money list following his victory in France earlier this month.
