PAUL Baker last night confirmed that a fresh bid has been submitted for Cherries.

The Cherries co-owner revealed that the bid, which was put forward on Monday, is the only one currently on the table.

Baker is hoping to receive one further offer in the near future as the club’s long-running takeover saga possibly nears a final conclusion.

“We want to make a decision in the earliest possible time frame,” he told the Echo.

“There’s one bid on the table and we do expect another one. There’s no reason to think it (the further offer) won’t come in.”

One bid, thought to be from the group headed by former Cherries director Adam Murry, was withdrawn last week, as exclusively revealed in yesterday’s Echo.

But with the arrival of a fresh offer, Baker’s hopes of sealing a quick deal could now come to fruition.

This latest twist comes after the Echo revealed that some of the club’s players were considering invoking a 14-day notice rule, which would allow them to leave Dean Court on free transfers as they are still awaiting the remainder of their April salaries.

It is understood that, in a bid to stave off a potential player exodus, Baker has contacted the Professional Footballers’ Association to help cover the wages shortfall. He could also ask the players’ union to help out with this month’s wages, which are due on Friday.
