LYTCHETT Matravers superbiker Ross Walter was left dejected after a broken exhaust pipe cost him a share of the points at Donington Park on Bank Holiday Monday.

The 21-year-old dipped out of the points for the first time this year in the British Supersport Championship when the Lambda sensor fell off his exhaust in the opening laps.

Walter was also disappointed after his tyre warmers failed to arrive on the grid and he was forced to start the race with cold rubbers.

The Triumph Daytona rider said: “I sat there for 15 minutes with no warmers on the tyres and obviously they got cold.

“We gave the trolley to someone and it went to the wrong place on the grid, so it was a bit of a mess-up within the team.

“I did the first two laps a bit cautiously because the tyres were cold and then, to make matters worse, the Lambda sensor fell out.

“I just couldn’t concentrate at all because I thought the whole exhaust pipe had fallen off, rather than this small part of it.

“The times in qualifying were good but where it was so noisy in the race, I just couldn’t focus properly.

“I battled up from about 23rd to 17th which wasn’t too bad, but we could have done a lot better.”

This result leaves Walter with five points from his opening three rounds and he is determined to do better at Thruxton this weekend.

This is the first time this season the Interserve Racing rider has been on track two weekends in a row.

He added: “Having just done Donington, I should do better racing on back-to-back weekends.

“I do need more time on the bike, but I think I should go to the Thruxton meeting feeling much fresher.

“Hopefully, I’ll get on the pace very quickly.”
