Only Alexandra Park and Boscombe Cliff remain unbeaten in Section One – and next Saturday they meet at Alex.

After 19 ends, and trailing by 11 shots at Meyrick, Alex’s 100 per cent record was in doubt. But Bournemouth failed to score one more shot across the board.

The home rink of Ralph Johns, Franco Tinelli, Alan Wilson and Vic Druce (28-13) were always in control but Dave Baxter, Eric Simon, Richard Cake and Steve Chalker (26-12) inspired the Alex fight back, to snatch a 10-4 (81-76) victory.

Boscombe Cliff won by a similar 10-4 (81-74) margin against Knyveton Gardens. Dean Morgan, Tony Gabb, Mike Hutley and Russell Morgan (24-16) were Cliff’s anchormen while John Kellow’s rink (21-15) were the Gardeners’ best reply.

Poole Park recovered from last week’s setback at the Cliff by punishing Branksome Park 13-1, winning on three rinks (79-54).

Lakesiders’ best were Mike Bennett, Mike J Jones, Pat Ravelin and Alex McKenzie (22-11).

Brian Burton, Charles Leonard, Mike Burfield and John Riddington (29-20) inspired West Moors to a three-rink success over visitors New Milton (93-76) whose lone win came from Bill Wallace‘s rink (25-20).

Minstermen’s Eddie Hawkins, Roger Gallup, John Cooke and Brian Ludlow spearheaded a 12-2 (80-63) triumph over Ringwood for whom Peter Ward’s lads (23-16) collected a consolatory two points.

SECTION TWO

Lymington and Southbourne continued their unbeaten starts with respective home wins over Fordingbridge and Pelhams.

David Bradley’s squad (23-19) proved to be the Turks only success as David Blake, Bill Merrit, Geoff Mates and Reg Robinson led the Lymos to a 12-2 (81-67) victory.

Southbourne’s inspiration came from Bob Read, Keith Holbrook, John Challis and Dean Hopkins (26-15) as Pelhams were crushed 13-1 (87-65) with John Watts (18-18) holding on to a point for the Kinson club.

Braeside’s carpet must have been emitting heavy static as Electric nosedived 50-115. They had no answer as Carpetbaggers well-insulated skips Colin Moss (36-9) and Eric Lamb (24-10,) supervised the 14-0 win.

Wessex’s top rink of John Hall, Brian White, Trevor Smyth and Clive Smith (17-13) proved to be the heroes and the villains by dropping four shots on the last end allowing Southbourne A to escape with a 7-7 (70-70) drawn match. Paul Turner’s rink (21-16) kept the Tower Men in the fight.

Malcolm Perkins, Dennis Moss, John Morris and David Halliday’s 36-14 win proved decisive in the final tally of 89-81 as Boscombe Cliff A shared rinks at Richmond Park. Tony Wanklin’s quartet (27-14) were HQ top scorers.

SECTION THREE

Trailblazers Kings Park stormed Iford Bridge 11-3 (75-64). Fred Greenwood, Bob Brunton, Jerry Hardy and Roy Simpson (22-12) led the attack for the Park while a side skirmish saw Iford’s Alan Doughty’s defenders recover from a 7-16 deficit to an honourable 20-20 draw.

Redhill Park were also on the rampage at Highcliffe blitzing their hosts 14-0 (107-44) with Terry Horgan’s support cast of David Mould, Andy Davies and Bob Kitchenham heading the charge (34-8).

Last week humiliation, this week glory for Swanage skip Peter Newbury (30-4). The Purbeck club were on course for at least 13 points until Argyll skip Paul Debnam drew fourth wood on the last end, winning (20-17). Final result was a 12-2 (96-34) Swanage victory.

Terry Davis, David Foote, David Glascodine and Jim Flexman (27-16) claimed top honours in Knyveton Gardens A’s (78-72) triumph over visiting Moordown. Peter Dorey added another two points with a last-wood (18-17) win. Mike Sykes’s foursome (24-12) foiled the Gardeners’ chance of 14 points. Poole Park A returned from Branksome Park with a 97-60 win with Keith Power’s quartet (35-14) heading the success while Joe Staddon (20-11) held on to two points for the hosts.

SECTION FOUR

Three out of three for Wessex A after prevailing 99-66 at Ringwood. Nick Nichols, Francis Reeves, Peter Edwards and Bill Brydon (30-15) headed the visitors’ three winning rinks. The only solace for Ringwood A came from Dave Smith’s successful rink (22-19).

Tracking Wessex are New Milton A who are also on an unbeaten run after their 10-4 (88-86) home triumph over West Moors A.

David Morrison, Denny Jarrold, Ron Johnson and Bob Burns (28-14) were hot enough to cover West Moors’ best effort from Eric Cook’s squad (22-13).

Milford-on-Sea moved into third spot after overcoming visitors Braeside (88-75). Brian Webley, Ron West, Derek Newland and Colin Baker (30-14) steered Milford to an 11-3 points haul. Horace Hopkiss (24-19) efforts gave the Carpetbaggers a winning rink.

Boscombe Cliff A are still searching for a victory after their home defeat by Swanmore 4-10 (73-84). Cyril Baker, Paul Dunn, Bob Brown and Barry Coates (23-10) cantered in for the Swans while Derek Francis’s quartet (20-19) were once again the Cliff’s stalwarts.

Hosts Ferndown A recorded their first win of the season 10-4 (91-69) against Christchurch. John Waller’s 24-16 was the best that the Priorites could offer in reply to Ferndown’s star performers Ken Rolf, Bill Pentelow, George Harris and Gordon Fisher (34-11).

SECTION FIVE

Poole Park B eased to the top after a comfortable win over West Moors B 12-2 (86-54). Alan Hardy, David Gray, Bob Whitehouse and John Mullins proved to be the pick of the three successful rinks for the Lakesiders.

Despite losing out at Pelhams A 12-2 (88-76) Highcliffe remain in second place. Pelhams’ three-winning rinks were topped by Mike Sebbage, Cyril Lee, Charlie loader and Bob Goodman (22-15).

At Meyrick Park, Ron Jeffries and his three Maurices - Benjamin, Haines and Hindley (30-16) spurred Bournemouth A on to an 11-3 (75-65) victory over Branksome Park B.

Richmond Park A suffered their first defeat (78-65) at the hands of Knyveton Gardens A. Frank Thom, Jon Scoulding, Maurice Ballard and Graham Broom (25-13) swept the opposition aside spearheading a 12-2 success for the Gardeners.

Kings Park A inflicted a third consecutive defeat on Wimborne A 10-4 (78-72) with Colin Col-brook’s rink top-scoring (28-10).

SECTION SIX

Southbourne B continued on their merry way as John Morgan, Brian Harris, Tom Harrington and Ivor Goodman (32-13) headed a three-rink battering 91-64 of visitors Iford Bridge A with Eddie Boyt’s foursome (20-18) clinging on to two points for the Bridge.

A reversal of fortunes for Southbourne C at Redhill as Eric Mardling’s rink (23-22) frustrated the hosts’ hope of a four-rinker. Barry Sturgess spearheaded Redhill’s 12-2 (87-65) triumph.

Swanmore A claimed second spot over Redhill when recording a three-rink home victory (88-68) over Lymington A. Ian Apsley, Spencer Spring, Alan Leggett and Ron Prigg (32-13) played the signature tune for the Swans with Les Ford’s crew (22-16) the sole providers for Lymington.

Wimborne B’s top skip Barry Smith (27-20) was the cornerstone of a 10-4 (90-71) victory over near neighbours Ferndown whose best reply came from John Boynton’s quartet (22-15).

New Milton B thwarted Argyll A’s attempt to get off the mark, returning from the West Cliff with a 10-4 (72-64) success.
