POOLE Town boss Tom Killick has moved to replace departed goalkeeper Jason Harvell by launching a bid for Hamworthy United star Martin Peters.

Influential Harvell left Tatnam for big-spending Bournemouth Poppies last week, leaving Killick’s Wessex League champions short of options between the sticks.

But the Dolphins chief will hold talks with Peters this week – although Hammers boss Phil Simkin claims the former Weymouth stopper is still suffering with a worrying knee injury sustained during the Wessex League Cup semi-final against Poole in March.

Simkin told the Echo: “I understand that Martin is speaking to Tommy Killick on Wednesday night.

“Martin hasn’t signed at this moment in time, but I’m not sure if he will be playing for anybody to be quite honest.

“He still hasn’t recovered from the injury he sustained in the semi-final and he still doesn’t know what’s wrong with it now. If he had to play tomorrow, he couldn’t.

“He’s waiting to have a scan so it might all be a little bit irrelevant. It’s not a good one and at his age you never know.

“But he will speak to Tommy who will, no doubt, make him a substantial offer.

“It’s not what we wanted to hear, but Steve Shergold did exceptionally well at the back end of last season and I have no problem with him staying on. I don’t want to lose Martin because we’ve known each other since he was a young lad and he has done very well for me and we’ve looked after him.

“But if that is the way it has to be, then I just have to get on with it. I’ve been in the game too long to worry too much about these things.”

Killick said: “I do have to clarify some things about Martin’s knee. Ironically it was Taffy Richardson who inflicted the injury during the cup semi-final, so I will have a chat with him to get to the bottom of that.

“I have spoken to him briefly and he did indicate he would be interested, but we’ll see.

“He is the one I am concentrating on first and foremost, but there are other irons in the fire. I would only pursue those if this one doesn’t come to fruition, though.”
