NOTTS BOSS PRAISES JALAL

NOTTS County boss Ian McParland was left to rue two "world class" saves after Shwan Jalal had thwarted his side during yesterday's 1-1 draw at Meadow Lane.

The Cherries goalkeeper pulled off top-drawer stops to deny Myles Weston midway through the first half and Mike Edwards after the break.

He plucked Weston's piledriver out of the top corner and somehow managed to claw Edwards's effort from point-blank range around the post.

Jalal's heroics came after Brett Pitman had cancelled out Jamie Forrester's 12th-minute opener to earn new boss Jimmy Quinn a point in his first game in charge.

McParland said: "I thought we were fantastic for the first 25 minutes and should have been maybe two or three goals up. But we can't keep shooting ourselves in the foot.

"We gave them a goal seven minutes after we had scored ourselves and it was too easy. They have to learn to shut up shop and show a bit of character when they go a goal ahead.

"But fair play to their goalkeeper because he made two great saves. They were both world class.

"Bournemouth came into the game and we stopped playing our football in the last 15 minutes of the first half. Darren Anderton started getting the ball and he can pass it as we all know "Some of the football we played at times was really good but we must learn to kill off teams.

Good football is no good if you're not killing off teams.

"I thought only one team was going to win the game in the second half and it was going to be us."

Jalal said: "I work hard in training to make saves like that but the rest of the team were fantastic in digging in when we were under the cosh and I thought we were solid.

"We reacted well when their goal went in and, although they had the better of the second half, we held out and that's what it's going to take this season.

"For the first save, I just stood up for as long as I could and, luckily, he hit it at a good height into the top corner. I just managed to get a good hand to it and tip it over.

"The second one fell to him at the far post and he had to take a touch so I was able to get myself set. I just tried to stay big and it came off my hand and I managed to push it around the post. I was delighted to play my part in the result and the defence held out brilliantly as well."

Talk about a waste of print, why would we want to know what the other manager thinks, of course he's going to say his team should have won etc, try reporting how we missed chances and how their keeper kept them in the games and how we could have grabbed the win at the death, talk about a bias report of events from their manager, waste of print, support our team not theirs!!!!

Echo story printed word for word from Notts County web-site. Easy journalism I suppose, perhaps that's what all of the local rags do ? 4 points out of 6 can't be a bad start can it,think Quinn is the right choice for us at this crucial time.........just hope that the decidedly "top heavy" management/admin structure doesn't implode before the end of the season !
Best regards to Flying Leaper...you are truly a legend on these posts ! Chequers and " The Beachcombers" now there's a memory for you ! Talking about legends, was G.McMahon a figment of my imagination ? Used to enjoy his posts...or are they still appearing but in a different guise? Regards to all genuine Cherries fans.

Why would anyone be interested in anything the Notts County Manager has to say unless of course you support Notts County . We know Jalal is a good keeper. Interesting to note that the Clown we had this time last season Bergovic is keeping up his cosistancy levels whats it now for Yeovil 5 defeats in a row.

Not with you on the 4 points out of six, the Rovers game was in the wet paint cup, so it's 1 league point in one game, still a better start than some have had.

macca02.....sorry, meant that a win and a draw was a pretty good start.
Worst striker? How about Brian Greenhalgh (Smiler!)
Funniest memory ? Going to one of my first games in late 60's...when Freddie Cox was manager. Dire game and performance prompted the entire crowd to go into a rousing chorus of "COX OUT... COX OUT" (ooh er missus!) The manager reacted by clambering out of the dug-out and with both arms outstretched he gave the entire crowd, one section at a time, the most fantastic V-signs that you will ever see !! The whole crowd stopped chanting because they were laughing so much...it was brilliant much better than the match, those were the days!
Wonder how much Sam Vokes would be worth to us now? What was the sell-on clause?Oh, and why no mention in the Echo about the fullback we've apparently signed from Fisher Athletic ?
