Numbers plight is caught on camera

WITH Jermain Defoe and Rob-bie Fowler both representing' Cherries - and Sky Sports News on hand to capture the event - Magna Road was thrust into the media spotlight tonight.

But while Kevin Bond's men may have romped to a facile 3-0 victory against Dorset Premier League Hamworthy Recreation, the team which finished for Cherries told its own story.

Predictably, a strong and encouraging starting line-up, including trialists Sammy Igoe and Stephen Maher, laid siege to the Hamworthy goal as Cherries dominated the opening period.

And after Igoe's double either side of half-time had added to Brett Pitman's finely-taken 27th-minute goal, Cherries were in command.

However, their alarming lack of strength in depth came home to roost when the traditional sweeping changes were made around the hour-mark.

After Ryan Pryce had made way for Corrin Brooks-Meade, a flurry of second-year youth team players replaced the seniors, while trialists Carl Pettefer and Clive Roberts were also handed a chance to shine.

Cherries' 44-year-old assistant manager Rob Newman was also required to make up the numbers, as was striker Matt Rich-bell, who was invited to play after writing for a trial.

Midfielder Roberts is the cousin of England star Defoe, while Richbell, in his correspondence, apparently described himself as the "Robbie Fowler of Winchester City"!

Just for good measure, reporter Simon Vincent came on for the final 10 minutes to put the finishing touches to his feature on Cherries' plight, which is due to go out on Sky Sports News tomorrow.

With little more than three weeks until the start of the new season, even the most optimistic of Cherries fans can see Bond is struggling for numbers.

His assistant Newman told the Daily Echo: "We decided to start with what we felt was our strongest team. It was our first game and it showed. There was a bit of rustiness there but I thought they applied themselves well.

"We've had a good 10 days of training, we trained this morning and used this as another training session and it worked well. Results aren't important and it was good to get the majority of the players through a good 60-minute workout."

Newman added: "It was a mix and match at the end but that's the way it is at the moment. Jermain phoned Eddie (Howe) about Clive Roberts and he pas-sed it to the gaffer. If he is out of that mould, we would have been stupid not to have a look.

"Matt wrote in for a trial last season and said he could be the answer. We get a million letters like that but the gaffer invited him in for a reserve game.

"He came in last season and saw he needed to get himself a bit fitter. The gaffer was true to his word and gave him 10 minutes tonight. That's not to say everybody who writes in is going to get 10 minutes in the first team!"

What an embarrassment and an insult to those players who stayed loyal to the club. Also Bondy too - no doubt we will soon have cries of "Bond out" when he fails to fashion a team out of this lot.

Hope Mostyn has a good story at the Fans Forum if the football league arent preventing us from signing players.

Are there any goalies writing for a trial, hope so! Note to JM, this time, when you go to a meeting, just make sure that you have a pen and paper to write down what else the league have not received from you, that way we might just get this sorted a bit quicker. Call me a cynic (amongst other things!) but any meeting that i have ever had to go to, I check beforehand what I need to take, it aint rocket science is it??????

I can't see the point of this report - it is embarassing. If the game was just a gentle loosen up involving almost any one who fancied a game because regular players were not available or risked against a poor quality team it should be reported as such

I think this sad situation finally confirms what some supporters feared, what we saw last night was the outcome and a direct result of the effect mostyn and sly have had on the club, that coupled with this farce of an adminsitration. In three saturdays time we will kick off the season in League 2 possibly with a minus figure, at this satge of pre season the team should be 80% in place remember team wise we are in a worse state thie season than we were at the corresponding time last season, Bond relied upon loan players, we did not win a home league game until December 15th, the loan players did not work, and we were relegated. We are in a far worse state this now than we were 12 months ago, when are the supporters going open their eyes and start challenging what is going on, your club is dying, and responsibility sits with the administrator and the preferred bidders, how much longer are we going to have to suffer this, what we saw last night for a professional club was unbeleivable. I dont blame Bond or the players the responsibility sits elsewhere, I sincerely hope there are going to be some very challenging questions asked tomorrow night, the supporters deserve answers.

Words fail me. Surely some of the top players in local football could have done a better job than playing 44 year olds.
Take a look at Adam Faux and Tom Gardner the two Tiverton Town centre backs Bondy they are young, ambitious, would cost you nothing and have kept out the PLymouth Argyle and Torquay strikers in the last seven days.

I think for the first time in 60 years suporting the club I feel no excitment or that buzz you get when the season is about to commence, my hope is that at the forum tomorow night things will become a lot clearer, and if I may offer two peices of advice, to Jeff Mostyn unless you have something definite to say and are prepared to be open about every aspect of the club do not bother to attend, and to supporters attending the meeting do not waste time asking questions to Kevin Bond like :how many players do you think we need:, there are far more important questions that need to be asked and answered, I shall be listening online and lets all hope to see signs of a club that is going to be taken forward

I still harbour doubts as to if there will be a next season (i hope im wrong)

If Mostyns bid where in concrete i feel Krasner would have allowed players to be signed by now, I can see Mostyns bid failing at the 11th hour

As for the points deduction if we do get it we will have to bite the bullet and accept the deduction there is no point in paying the costs involved in any appeals process both Leeds and now Luton have failed in there appeals process

As for fans screaming for Bonds head all sensible supporters know full well that Bonds hands have been firmly tied behind his back closed season due to this shambles

and another concern why so many friendlies with such a desimated side we cannot afford any injury whatsoever

end of rant

What I find alarming is the way this reporter seems to be taking enjoyment out of this all, his whole article is full of ridicule and digs at the club and the players, I find that in very poor taste, why don't they do some proper journalism and find out what has been going on at the club to put us in this position in the first place. It is very easy copy to kick someone when they are down, and this is squad is not going to be the full squad for the start of the season, so lay off the players and the manager they are having to deal with a very difficult period and it's not down to them. Come on Echo do something for a change!!!!!

Don't hold your breath for any searching questions to be answered at the fans forums, I suspect due to the very short nature of it, most of it will be tide up by introducing Saveirmutto and he will put out a fine degree of spin as to why in our current position we need the burden of a director of football and an allegedly HIGH paid Chief executive.

Any seraching questions will be avoided or answered by the usual "Matter of confidentiality" or "At the present time I can't answer that"

Where will the funding be coming from to move this club forward? Because it certainly isn't available from Sport6 or Baker.

This waiting game is killing our club. Now we have news of an alleged kit dispute.

Mostyn just please get out the way and let people with genuine plans for the future in.

In all fairness, this whole scenario is pointing towards a season of struggle. Why is it that so many people seem to bury their heads in the sand by failing to see this.

I agree with ALASDAIR above, we seem to have a ridiculous number of friendlies scheduled and we don't have enough players available to field a full side! Just waiting for a couple of injuries during these games and God help us for August 9th!!!

Ted McDougal and Phil Boyer seen in their kit at Dean Court !!! For a laugh I’m going to the Eastleigh v AFCB fixture. Lets face it you could be playing in the same league soon. I have txt Bondy to let him know I will take my footie boots with me, haven’t played for 10 years but I reckon I could get in this squad no probs !!!

I don't think anyone is expecting us to win the league this season, but if Bond can get the players in we need then we do have a decent enough group of players to better than struggle, some of it will be down to good luck with such a small squad but you are intent on writing the team off every chance you get, we all as supporters want the club to do well this season so i still cannot grasp why you are so down on the team and the players. I also know you wont be supporting the cherries on league 2 you have made that quite clear so it shouldn't be concern for you anyway, good luck with Doncaster though.

Agreed and if Perrett had put half the effort into asking probing questions to Mostyn as he has in taking the **** out of the Club he may (and only may) make people believe that he really is a proffesional reporter.I am afraid letting Mr Perrett loose on reporting Bournemouth stories is like letting a porcupine loose in a durex factory

their alarming lack of strength in depth came home to roost

Mr Savi and Mr Mostyn weren't asked about this by the Echo reporters who put out their spin.
Delivery of Directors of Football, CEO and directors while the mystery block on signing players remains.
Is there an embargo on the Echo signing a proper reporter ?

Frankly, I think it's refreshing to find a player who actually wants to play for the club. So often we get idiots in on loan who don't put in any effort and who blatently don't want to be there.
I agree that it wasn't the greatest game but it was the first pre-season friendly and if we haven't got the money and no one to put up the money then I don't know how anyone can complain. Bond is doing the best with what he has got and people need to look higher for the answers.
As for this paper giving such a sarcastic and demoralising report, I think they would spend their time much better raising funds for our club rather than taking cheap shots at anyone they can. Does it really matter what you're background in football is. If you have the skill, passion and fitness-that's good enough for me.
