The man watching at the back

THE quirky administrator from Leeds may have stolen the show again, but it was the man at the back on most people's minds in Dean Court's MacAlister Suite yesterday morning.

With the rumour mill still churning over Jeff Mostyn's potential involvement in the dual consortium confirmed as having made an offer for the club on Wednesday, it was brave of the club's current chairman to watch proceedings unfold under the glare of the press.

And while Gerald Krasner once again played the role of the canny, witty frontman, Mostyn's supporting role at the rear of the room was both gripping and potentially telling.

He may not have been standing around waiting for a barrage of questions.

But he was in earshot for suggestions of a potential CVA block by himself and vice-chairman Steve Sly and had to listen to repeated queries over their investment of £750,000 as loans instead of share capital this time last year.

However, he spoke candidly to the Echo after yesterday's press conference and discussed both recent newspaper coverage and how he is still coming to terms with the media circus that currently surrounds the club. He only went on the record to insist he would not stand in the way of any CVA proposal following a successful sale - whoever the buyer.

For a man who often uses silence as a way of dealing with tough questions, Mostyn should be applauded for his presence at a press conference which, publicly at least, did not involve nor require his input.

But whether his suited figure was present simply to listen to another informative and amusing Krasner briefing, or for reasons deeper and far more meaningful, we will probably only learn at around 3pm on Tuesday.

All very nice but what answers did he give the Echo in this candid interview as you do not say in this report, so basically it's an article about a bloke watching someone talk, hardly top journalism is it.

If he can't answer simple questions when asked then he is not the right person to be chairman at our club.

Just a bit of sucking up by the paper to the guy they think will be in charge.

If Mostyn has a debenture over all the assets of the club, doesn't this mean that he will get paid first and will have no reason to block any CVA whoever buys the club?
