CHERRIES director Ernie Battey wants inquiring fans to call a temporary truce as they bid to search for answers to the cause of the club's grim financial state.

Battey, one of two supporters' trust representatives on the main board, took his place on the top table during yesterday's press conference.

And he was asked by the Daily Echo how he felt supporters could help during the club's hour of need and whether they should try to forget the past.

He replied: "I don't want people to forget the past because I'm a supporter as well and feel pathological about looking back and doing a forensic analysis of who got us into this mess at some stage.

"But let's agree for the next three, four or five months while we're looking for a new owner and investment that the real thing for us to do is to look forward and secure the future of the club.

"Then, I will be up for it as much as anybody else and, that given the opportunity, we should look at what happened in the past, if only for our own satisfaction so we understand better, even if there is nothing that can be done about it."

Battey added: "There's a range of things that fans can do. The first and most important thing is to keep turning out in large numbers. We're trying to overcome a 10-point deficit, which is severe, but we need to give the players every chance to perform for us.

"If the supporters turn out in their numbers, the players will do better and it will also improve the finances going towards the end of the season and ensure we can survive through and have enough time to be able to find a new buyer and new investment.

"The other thing that supporters can do is help us in any way they can. Of course money would be nice but even if money isn't there, if they could help us in practical ways that would be very welcome too."

Discussing the administration route, Battey said: "What has happened in terms of this administration is that we are using a route that wasn't obvious to us a year ago. If we'd gone into administration a year ago - and I know a lot of people are saying in hindsight we should have - we wouldn't have gone into administration in this way and I think that would have exposed us to liquidation much faster.

"This route is an interesting variation because it does create space for us to properly negotiate with new investors and ensures that the club can stay alive during that process because we've found a mechanism that enables the administration to be funded and take us forward."

I think most of us have realised that us bickering is futile I know I have We all have views on what has happened and I must say again that I was very impressed with Modtyn and the fact he gave us a lifeline when the administrator came in . I think you will find that all the real supporters will get behind the Team although to be fair I dont think they ever were not behind them and the only people who will make silly nasty comments will be the ones who dont want a Club here the stirrers and the wind up merchant and frankly who cares what they have to say just ignore em Up the Cherries

I am just puzzled by Mostyn's quote " This is the start of a bright new future". How does he arrive at that conclusion when relegation to Div 2 is now virtually assured BY THE DOCKING OF 10 POINTS ?? and the chances of getting out of that division are very slim.

The John Benson days have returned. It will not be long before players will be released or taken by other clubs due to non payment of wages etc by AFCB. Bright future???!!!???

smhinto. The transfer window has shut so how can we transfer out anyone?

We've been asked to pull together in our hour of need and it takes you just an hour to start moaning.

Yes but its an easy choice go into administration lose 10 points and have more than a fair chance of still having a Club to support at the end of it and possibly debt free OR carry on four a couple of weeks /months go bust lose all our points abd have no Club at all. Yes we may lose a few Players but surely thats better than losing everything so I never thought I would say this but a Club with a few players less is brighter than no Club at all.

Ernie, as much as I respect you, your position is flawed I suspect. Trust between fans and club needs to be regrown. The rift between supporters does need healing but you won't do that by simply saying lets all unite.

How about a simple deed - publish the list of who got paid what after the stadium sale. That would go a long way to proving that the club is at least now trying to be honest with its dealings with supporters.

I get the impression from Fartycat that he has an axe to grind. Yes he may well be right regarding the stadium sale but I know for a fact Gerald Krasner will leave no stone unturned and if there have been shortcomings on the practice of previous administrations then they will be taken to task.
Irrespective of Jeff Mostyn's good and bad qualities he should be applauded in helping this club when he did and for putting the money up 'again' to get the club operating for the next few weeks. Dont forget the debt has not increased since he took over. The people who should be barracked are the Rodney Bartons, Ken Gardiners, Peter Phillips etc of this world. Need I saymore. Lets get behind the team now and make sure they get those 10 points back quickly. Long live AFCB.

Yes Yorkie, I have an axe to grind. But it is not against Ernie, Mostyn or Sly and I hope Ernie knows this. I am just suggesting that if the club really wants unity then it needs to be as open as it can about the past and it needs to do it now.

I hope you're right about Gerald Krasner. Watkins, Noonan, Phillips, Jaffer and Schofield all have plenty to worry about and need to be brought to account to what they have done to our club.

I agree wholeheartedly with you Fartycat and I hope we find out what went wrong and I am sure this will be in Mr Krasner's final report.
I have discovered that this firm successfully assisted Wrexham in their administration so that gives us a bit of hope.

I asked Mr Krasner at the press conference on Friday whether previous years accounts would be made available to shareholders after the administration process and he said no.

It's a concern that the S&L money may not have been distributed appropriately and even more concerning that we may never find out the truth.

The issue has been raised time and time again ever since the S&L deal was finalised but we've never had an answer.

So... where did the £3.5m go?

Surely what we are suffering now is a major result of going ahead with the stadium build without the finance in place. The first Cherryshare was partly due to the outstanding debt being long overdue.Since then it's been a long snowball effect, resulting in administration.Has anyone heard anything from Tony Swaisland recently? Where does his responsibilty stop?
