A new member has joined the team of four deckhands at Poole Harbour Commissioners, who are responsible for the maintenance and safety of navigation in the harbour.

Rosanna Maddock is the first female to be appointed to the marine services section of the Harbour Master department.

The team’s duties are to carry out patrols, refurbish and replace navigational buoys and make sure all the necessary safety precautions are taken for the boarding and landing of pilot boats.

Before joining the PHC, Rosanna spent six years in the Royal Navy. As a seamanship specialist, she was responsible for day and night watches, sea survival, tactical communications and maintaining safety equipment.

Harbour Master Captain Brian Murphy said: “We are pleased to welcome Rosanna on board and we are confident that she will bring complementary skills and experience to what is a challenging yet vital part of PHC’s work in the Harbour.”
