JOBS have been created and secured at Bournemouth’s train depot.

South West Trains announced on Friday morning that it is investing £23 million in the overhaul of its Class 455 fleet and is building a £3.2 million paint shop at the Westbourne site.

It will create 38 new full-time jobs and secure those who already work there, bringing total numbers up to 103.

When the paint shop is up and running in April, it will mean that, for the first time, the train firm will be carrying out all of its maintenance in-house.

Brilliant news and good to see jobs other than low paid care and hospitality being created in the town.

With 95% of new jobs going to migrant workers I doubt any locals will get a look in. That said 5% of 38 new jobs is better than nothing.

I was interested to find out what this statement was based so googled it, It appears to be based on a Daily Mail story (and that was a surprise I can tell you)

"The figures, produced by the Office for National Statistics, reveal that employment among working age people rose by 181,000 in the Coalition’s first year. Yet employment levels among British nationals rose by just 14,000, or less than 8 per cent of the total.

Employment among non-UK nationals rose by 163,000 during the period – equal to more than 90 per cent of the total."

Not quite what the comment or indeed the Daily Mail headline says. One conclusion could be that Migrants don't come here to go on the dole but to get jobs that Uk nationals don't apply for.

Given that we have strong anti-discrimination policies in this country the answer to anyone who wants these jobs must be to apply for them!

Good news that these jobs have been created in Bournemouth.
