Twin Sails Bridge work cancelled

Twin Sails Bridge work cancelled Twin Sails Bridge work cancelled

ROADWORKS due to take place on Poole’s Twin Sails Bridge were cancelled yesterday due to staff shortages for contractors Hochtief.

The council had intended to repaint the white cycle lane lines with high friction paint to prevent bikes slipping. The works were expected to last most of the day yesterday while the traffic was controlled with stop-go boards.

The council has said the works will be rescheduled as soon as possible.

Another set of road works are also set to take place in the next couple of weeks on the bridge link road on the Hamworthy side.

Landowners Gallaghers will carry out remedial works to a defect in the road identified during routine inspections.

OHHH 1st comment....Imaximus wins. I blame the imax for the man who was supposed to paint the road going sick. Or was he attacked by dog walkers on bikes.

two thoughts, 1, why wasnt the correct paint used first? Surely all the other cycle lanes in Poole use non slip paint?? 2, I would suggest that with the current unemployment levels, almost any agency could provide a capable line painter almost instantly. Not only would the lines have been done but......some one could have been given some work!!!! So, in the mean time are we going to have lots of cyclist falling off and calling claims direct? If so who foots the bill.

This has been a stunning success from the word go. Almost nothing has gone wrong. It works brilliantly, looks fantastic and has massively improved traffic flow in the area. It's a project that is practically perfect in every way. Money well spent, kudos to everyone involved.

Did they have to cancel the Muppet's show on TV because they all got jobs in various Dorset councils?

Here we go again ....... not one week has passed since the bridge was opened, when there was not one problem or another and I for one am not looking forward to the no doubt costly increase in our council taxes to help pay for on-going repairs to this white elephant, once the first year is up and the repair bill falls on the council.

A ridiculous bridge, built on the whims of an eccentric councillor who didn't live to see it opened and yet chose appearances over practicallity!

An iconic bridge? My ar$e! It's going to cost the tax payers of Poole very dearly over the years, I can see it coming ....

Isn't it time that the Echo used an up-to-date photograph of this bridge? Or is that a symbolic picture, as work on this bridge will never be finished?
