Tobias Ellwood slates ‘divide Afghanistan’ reports Tobias Ellwood slates ‘divide Afghanistan’ reports

A BOURNEMOUTH MP has slammed press reports that he came up with a plan to divide Afghanistan – which was reportedly being considered in Washington and London.

Tobias Ellwood was said to have come up with ‘Plan C’, a blueprint to separate the country into eight zones.

He reportedly wrote: “The Taliban will not enter into a meaningful dialogue if there is no feasible political strategy within |which they can participate.

“An alternative solution [offers] a less centralised political structure that better reflects the ethnic make-up of the country, the already established economic hubs and the regional interest of the Taliban, who might then be encouraged towards a political settlement.”

Critics said the scheme could be a return to the rule of warlords and that the Afghan people should decide the country’s future.

Mr Ellwood told the Echo the reports, which suggested the Taliban could control some regions, were “sensationalist” and his paper was drawn up 18 months ago.

He said it was a collection of ideas based on visits to Afghanistan and he did not advocate partition.

He said: “I would advocate a less-centralised Government “But the bottom line is that it’s for the Afghans to determine their own future.”

We really should stay out of these Counties - Iraq continues to be in turmoil with daily bombing and killings, Libia is utterly divided, with parts of the Country retaken by forces loyal to Ghadafi and the Eastern part threatening to break away, armed militia gangs controlling whole areas and only yesterday the American Embassy in Bengahzi was bombed, we are crawling out of Afganistan with our tail between our legs and it will be back in the hands of the Taliban within a year of the Allied Forces pulling out. Syria will end up in a Civil War, with unknown consequences .Such a waste of our young mens lives. One would have thought that the Politicians had enough problems in their own Countries ro resolve, without getting involved in others, the days of sending in a Gun Boat are long gone.

To be fair, trying to force together several different ethnicities of people with long held differences and grudges into one coherent country has proven time and time again to be near impossible. It seems reasonable to explore other possibilities and ways of going about bringing stability to the country. The more ideas on the table up for discussion the better surely.

I have to agree with Square Old Codger. It's about time we kept our noses out of other peoples problems. Let them wipe each other out if that's what they want to do. If they attack us, then bomb the sh1t ouf of them, but stop all this pretence of trying to find a solution. Our lads and lasses do a great job, but nobody over there will thank us for it. Look at the attack on the US embassy. Not long ago these backward morons were asking for the wests help to get rid of their leader, now they attack us over some silly film most of them have never watched. We should may be use their own logic against them. Every time they make fun of our religion, we should use that as an excuse to bomb and kill them. If it's good enough for them, then surely they can't moan if it's good ebough for us.Like I said, get our troops out and let them kill each other.

Judging by the atrocities that the Taliban and Muslim extremists enjoy inflicting on their own people, let alone numerous terrorist attacks, I say we just leave them to themselves to sort out their Middle East mess that they created in the 'name of Allah.'

Unfortunately, all these nations despise Israel so much that they would attack them, thus involving the US due to a massive Jew population, thus involving the UK again for having such a brown relationship nosed relationship with the US..!!! We may as well stay there a bit longer. It's safer!!
