Roadworks at Bransgore anger traders and residents

BRANSGORE residents and traders have been asked to be “understanding” about disruptive roadworks in the village.

Hampshire County Council is currently carrying out two separate schemes in the village, which have caused some problems for traders and residents.

Cllr Mel Kendal, executive member for environment and transport, said: “There are two separate schemes of work being carried out here.

“On Poplar Lane, New Forest District Council is implementing a scheme to widen and extend the lane to the school to make walking to school easier for children and has been timed to be completed at the end of next week before the start of the new school term.

“The other works are part of our Operation Resilience programme of planned structural maintenance which, here, involves replacing drainage pipes on Ringwood Road and Betsey Lane.

“The engineers had hoped to undertake the works with temporary traffic lights initially but it was not until we began digging that it became clear this was not going to be possible and more extensive work was needed which meant it was necessary to close the road in order to be able to complete the work as safely and quickly as possible.”

He added: “We are aware this has caused some disruption and are looking to complete these essential drainage works as soon as possible.

“I am sure that people will understand this type of work is not always as straightforward as it may seem at first and that our priority is to ensure the job is done properly to prevent future flooding.”

The owner of the Three Tuns Inn, Nigel Glenister said the works had hit them during their busiest two weeks of the year.

He and other traders in Ringwood Road said they were frustrated there had been little to no prior warning the works would be taking place.
