We've been assured there ARE still car parking spaces available in town. Here's our story:

Spaces are still available in Bournemouth town centre car parks despite reports they are all full.

Council chiefs are advising people flocking to the town for the popular four-day event that there are spaces available in car parks including Terrace Mount, Cotlands Road and Berry Court.

However, due to the heavy volume of traffic and amount of people travelling to Bournemouth, they are asking visitors to consider using the park and ride schemes and public transport or park a little further out and walk into town.

You can find info on the park and ride scheme here

0 parking spaces available in all car parks in Bournemouth. Police advise that all the major car parks are full, mainly due to the Air Festival.

We'll keep you posted with more as we get it.

TRAFFIC is being diverted after a collision at Derby Road in Bournemouth.
Police are in attendance at the scene of the collision with the A35 Christchurch Road closed while emergency services deal with the incident between a motorcycle and car.
The road is closed from St Swithun's roundabout and diversions are in place at the junction of Knyverton Road and Christchurch Road to prevent traffic approaching Derby Road.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said the motorcyclist was conscious and breathing and being tended to by paramedics.
He was riding a black Honda motorcycle with the car involved, a red Citroen C4.
The incident is ongoing and traffic is said to be slow.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be much-welcomed today. It was forced to cancel yesterday thanks to bad weather at their base in the North East.

11:34am

There's over an hour of extra flying added to today's schedule. From 4pm - 5.10pm you can see the Breitling Wingwalkers, The Blades display team, Chinook, Miss Demeanour Hunter Jet and the Tornado duo.

Did you know...? The Blades fly Extra EA-300s. Walter Extra, a display pilot during the 1980s, decided to design and build the ultimate aerobatic aeroplane with optimum structure, weight and performance in mind and today’s aircraft was born.

11:26am

For those of you who wanted to see the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight yesterday, the Air Festival team are pretty sure they will all be present and correct this afternoon - so if you're free at 3pm, make sure you're there!

10:24am

Yesterday we had a couple of comments regarding the environmental impact of an Air Festival:

11:40am Thu 30 Aug 12

muscliffman says

Noticed this comment "I'm working all 4 days on the Recycling/Green Goals stand. Can't wait to see some flying! "
Incredible! Gallons of fossil fuel causing unnecessary pollution in the name of entertainment and there is a 'Recycling/Green Goal' stand there!
Presumably it will be blocking the runways to prevent the flying?
Love the air-show before anyone starts (too late!), but just hate this 'green' hypocracy. But where there is a band-wagon there is a 'green'.......

12:29pm Thu 30 Aug 12

beachcomber1 says

have to agree the hypocrisy is staggering.

it does make me queasy when i see motor "sports", events like this and so on. but just the tip of the iceberg in terms of unnecessary fossil fuel usage.

Never ones to shy away from a debate, we thought we'd ask how you feel about that argument. On the one hand, there's no denying there's a lot of fossil fuels being burned over Bournemouth this weekend.

On the other side of the argument is the economic benefit to the town. And some would argue that compared with the millions of people who take cheap holiday flights every year, an air festival is a drop in the ocean. So what do you think?

Is it fair to criticise the festival if you're a person who's ever flown abroad (or even driven anywhere for pleasure, if it comes to that)?

Or do you envisage our great grandchildren surveying rising sea levels and recoiling in astonishment that we once stood on the beach watching hundreds of tonnes of fuel go up in smoke?

Wow what a stunning start to the day! wish I wasn't at work as it looks like being totally perfect conditions for an airshow, maybe a little bit of convective infill over the land as the day moves along but the coastal strip should stay almost clear!

Have a great down on the beach and clifftops everyone!

I have to say I now find the airshow, probably only with the exception of the Red Arrows, incredibly boring.

To put some context on my comment, when it first started I was amazed by it and really enjoyed it.

Now I find the yawn factor is setting in- oh look, there's another wingwalker...... oh look, there's a helicopter....yaaawn

It's like a hit tv show that you love at first, but after season 8 you get a bit tired of it. Tired of the same old thing.

So for those reasons, I'm out!

Just my personal thoughts of course and I have no doubt it's as popular as ever with the crowds who flock to Bournemouth. Fair play, enjoy it.

Is Freya Paterson the wing walker any relation to Mary Hopkins by any chance ?

beachcomber1 says...
9:44pm Fri 31 Aug 12

i know what Benny Dorm means. there seems to be less variety this year. one year there was a b17 bomber i think, and a p51 mustang, the unforgettable eurofighter (remember the low pass it made with the wake of it's engines creating huge waves?) and the other loudest one, the sea vixen.

I supose it be too much to ask that the Echo let us know what time things are due to start on Saturday BEFORE the event.
