MORE than £50,000 was raised for a local cancer charity in the annual Midnight Walk in Weymouth.
Weldmar Hospicecare Trust said around 600 people took part in the sixth event, dressed in bright green t-shirts and flashing bunny ears.
A loyal band of volunteers also gave their time to ensure all walkers were safe and the event ran well.
The women-only walk is the biggest event in Weldmar’s fundraising calendar.
There were three different routes for walkers to choose from – the 13-miler starting from Weymouth College and the five-mile and six-and-a-half-mile routes starting from the Esplanade at the stroke of midnight.
On completion, participants received a goodie bag along with a bacon butty and refreshments at Weymouth College.
Many women dressed up, even painting their faces.
This year’s Weymouth Car-nival Queen Elysia Munday was among those taking part, walking the route in high heels.
The event was backed by many sponsors and supporters including Weymouth College and the Dorset Echo.
Matt Smith, events fund- raiser at Weldmar said “We would like to thank each and every woman that took part in the midnight walk.
“All money raised will go to a fantastic cause and all of us at Weldmar are extremely grateful.”
Mr Smith added: “In tough economic times, the more money we can raise the better so it can help us continue to provide free care. The money raised will be amazing for the charity.
“This event is our biggest fundraiser and each year, we do not disappoint.
“Everyone helped create an amazing atmosphere and a fun evening all round.”
